You have to make some preparations for playing Blu-ray on your laptop:
Blu-ray's resolution reaches 1080p (1920×1080 resolution), which has high requirements on the performance of the machine,
Blu-ray drive.
Blu-ray media player.(such as Leawo Blu-ray Player)

My laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Notebook. It appears to have a video output on the left side to connect to my HDMI television. Would you know what cable is required to make this happen?
It should be a standard HDMI cable, the same sort that you would use to connect a Blu-Ray player or other HD device to your television. Your laptop should not require anything special or different to that.

How to find compaq presario audio device
Go to www.hp.com look down the page you will see "Customer Support", under it you will see "Software & Driver downloads", click it. On the next page, you will see a space to enter your product model (compaq presario A900), click next, on the next page, you will confirm you laptop model, on the next page click the operating system your laptop is using (Vista, XP, etc). The page that comes out next is where you will find all the drivers for your Laptop. Under Audio driver, you will find what you are looking for, just simply download.
