I want to install the OCR (scan as text) software for my Lexmark X1270. It worked on my old computer, but on my new one it tells me to use my CD, which I don't have any more. I've tried re-installing the official driver from the internet but it still doesn't do scan as text. Where can I download this software from?

To scan documents for editing and saving as PDF file, you will need to install the Lexmark OCR scan software on your computer. The Lexmark scan software (no downloadable version) is only available on the installation disc that came with your printer. If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for assistance.

To install the OCR scan software from the printer installation CD:

1. Insert CD into the CD-ROM drive. If the installation screen open, click Cancel.
2. Double-click on My Computer / Computer.
3. Right-click on Lexmark XXXX CD and select Open.
4. Double-click on OCR.
5. Double-click on Setup.exe to install the OCR software. Your operating system will then determine the language in which it is installed.

Try this approach:1. Uninstall your existing printer driver. On your computer, go to Start menu > Programs > Lexmark X5600 Series folder > Tools > Uninstall. After the uninstall process, reboot your pc when prompted.2. When your pc turns on, check if your Windows 7 is running on 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. On your computer, go to Start menu > right-click on Computer > click on Properties. Take note of the System Type.3. Then try to create a PDF or Scan and Edit text (OCR) to verify that the problem is fixed.

The Lexmark scan software (OCR) can only be installed using the installation cd that came with the printer. It's not included in the driver you downloaded from the Lexmark website since it's a big file. Anyway, if you don't have the installation cd, you can request for it for free by contacting Lexmark Technical Support.

Hi. You got a bit of a software problem there. Unfortunately, I believe the OCR software is only available in the cd. Not available for download on the internet because it's a big file. If you can't really find the installation cd, you can ask Lexmark for it. The model number of the printer is usually found on the front side. Most of the Lexmark printers usually starts with letter "X". Hope you'll find that exact model. Good luck.

You must have OCR installed to OCR. It's OCR...optical character recognition. You can't edit an image. It must be transformed into text. That's what OCR program does.
Google for your printed/scanner and download the proper software and install it. Dell provides the software online for free, but will charge you if you order a CD.
