If you have already played PS3 games on this system and this just started happening, chances are your laser is dirty/going bad. The PS3 has two lasers in one. One laser plays DVD's and the other plays blue rays. Put a blue ray movie in your drive and if your system does not read this as well. You will need to have a service technician replace your laser. This will cost you about $90.00 depending on where you live.

SOURCE: PS2 will not read disc

9 out of 10 times when the fat ps2 cant/wont read disk its the cd tray needs to be adjusted.

I would suggest opening up the ps2 and cleaning the console with Qtips and rubing alcohol. if the laser will wont read. go to youtube.com type in fix my ps2 laser. you will watch a video on how to adjust your cd tray.

The reason for this issue is if the laser is to close or to far from the cd the laser cant read the cd.

the worse problem u can come across is the laser 100% failed. which is rare but you can buy a new/used working laser on ebay.com or google it. the laser will have the model on it you want to make sure you get the correct model. otherwise it wont work.

Ps2 Disc won't respond to a Ps3 when inserted.

Only the first version of the PS3 had PS2 backwards compatibility, They did make a special edition Metal Gear Solid version with it included but other than that no other PS3 will play PS2 discs... No matter what Add-On you install.

When on the Browser screen.....it blinks "Reading

Hi there,

What you need to do here is determine whether the problem is the disc itself or the PS3 drive. You can easily test to see if the problem is the disc by putting in another PS3 Game, Blu-Ray, or DVD. If it reads it, then the problem is the disc itself, not the PS3.

It could just be that the disc is a little dirty, or that a fingerprint is blocking the laser from reading the disc inside of the PS3. You can try cleaning it with a lightly-damped piece of toilet paper. You will also want to dry it off with a dry piece of toilet paper. If the PS3 still won`t read it, then the problem may be that it`s scratched. If this is the case, your best bet may be to go to Best Buy to purchase a kit that removes these kinds of scratches. Places like EB Games and Gamestop also have professional cleaners to clean these discs for a mere $5.00.
Now, if there are no discs that work inside your PS3, that indicates a problem with the laser inside the drive. There are means of cleaning the laser inside of the drive, but doing so will break the warranty seal. This means that your PS3 will no longer be covered under Sony warranty if it breaks down in the future.

If this is something you wish to pursue, then try following this YouTube video. If you have never opened up your PS3 before, you may benefit more from visuals than pre-written instructions. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O-8NzYHr80

My playstation 3 does not recognize the PS3 disc's anymore but does still read the PS2 disc's. Is the Bluray going out? Can i buy just that part to fix it?

Hi,

The answer to your question is a definite Yes.

This is a very common problem with the PS3 and is most often caused by a problem with the laser on the Bluray drive which is malfunctioning and can no longer 'see' or read the game disk properly.

The PS3 uses a dual laser system. This consists of either a dual refractor type lens or two entirely seperate lenses depending on which pickup is fitted to your particular system. One laser is for reading ordinary DVD disks and PS2 disks and the other for Bluray and PS3 games.

The symptoms you describe are quite typical of a failure of the Bluray laser whilst the other laser is still functioning to read DVDs and PS2 discs.

For more information on how to resolve the problem please have a look at this FixYa Tip on the subject.

My ps3 wont read games, what is the problem?

ur PS3 wont read PS3 games? or ps2...because ps2 only works on the very oldest models. But as for ps3 games...if NOTHING will read then u have a problem with the laser for reading the discs...which i mean u can pay 150 dollars or something and wait 4 weeks to have it shipped and fixed...or u can try and fix it urself...whatever floats ur boat.

Reads ps2 games not ps3

If you have a copy of your receipt, you need to call Sony. They will send you a box and e-mail you a pdf with instructions. The lasers on these units are cheap. I have had 2 PS3's with disc read errors after 2 months of ownership.
If you don't have the receipt or if your unit is out of warranty it will cost $150.00 to fix-
