You didn't post the model system, but generally Dell master passwords are all entered lowercase (zrbfrwse) hold the CTRL key and press enter.
The master password is generated based on the code displayed prompting for the password. Most the systems have options for both BIOS and HDD passwords, it is possible that both BIOS and HDD passwords were setup, the each require a different password.

Testimonial: "Thanks finally got back to the Dell tech. He gave me one password that worked but not the HDD one only becasue I gave one letter wrong."

Dell xps 15 error 2000-0146 locks on dell startup screen have to do hard boot ran 64 bit diag, read failed. I had just transferred around 2 years worth of pictures to one location (hard drive) when th

with os disk in dvd drive. try system repair, You can do this by tapping rapidly on the F12 key at the Dell Splash screen when the system starts up and choose the CD/DVD drive from the Boot Once Menu that appears. You can tap rapidly on the F8 key when the System starts up and select the repair your computer if it works and windows boots transfer pictures to another computer. only run the bad hard drive for a long as needed to get recover your pictures
tip

ERROR CODE 2000-0142 and UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

Insert your OS disk into your cd/dvd drive

As the machine boots up - it should have an option to hit F2 or F12

Hit the F12 key

This will give you the option of where to boot your machine from.

Select boot from CD/DVD drive

For me windows loaded some files and gave me an option to either install windows or repair.

I selected repair

I was then asked for the admin password -- typed it in.

It brings you to a command prompt :

Type in CHKDSK

or

Type in CHKDSK/R

Hit the ENTER key

Once your machine has finished and repairing the hard drive, type EXIT and press ENTER to restart your laptop.

PRESTO THE DELL LAPTOP IS NOW BOOTING UP AND IS NOW HAVING ALL ITS DATA BACKED UP.

I have also found another command that could be tried if the above fails. Bear in mind, i didnt have to do it, but will post it here anyway.

After the command prompt - type in FIXBOOT

According to the DELL website the error code 2000-0142 is a Drive Self Test failed error code. http://support.dell.com/support/topi...ED2&doclang=en

This has worked out for myself and i do hope it works for you.

Paper keeps jamming or not catching on my dell 962 pinter

Hello there
You may not see a paper jam.

This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

My dell 962 does not feed from the lower paper tray. It continues to get stuck, saying paper jam. I press SELECT and it then eventually feeds into the printer.

How i transfer data from window to linux

Depending on your linux distrobution, you will need to check the /etc/samba or /etc/smb configuration file, within that file there will be a place to set your windowsfile sharing password. then you will be able to transfer data across the local network between your linux / windows machine again..

however, if you've actually changed the password for the linux user account that enabled the samba file sharing, you will need to either remember that password, or set a new one from the root account byt typing the following command in a terminal / bash / shell session:

Task: Set or change user password Type passwd command as follows>
$ passwd <user>

Output: Changing password for <user>
Enter new password:
Retype new password:
passwd: password updated successfully
NOTE: when typing the password, you may not see the password you are typing..
You need to replace <user> with the username you are changing the password for.

No cd for Dell axim 30

This isnt too bad, if you are using windows vista, the CD is obsolete, use the syncing technology in mobile device center to access the storage card/drive inside the pda form your computer and you can do it that way. Windows XP: you can go to the microsoft website and get Activesync which will allow you to transfer files as well. If you are using a mac, I am sorry.
