Anonymous Posted on Oct 23, 2009

Hi, this is our third Dyson DC-16.. the Trigger was shorting out on the first two.. Now we have the third one for about a year.. on charge when not using it.. don't use it every day, but for quick pickups only.. Just how long should the battery last? I was sent a new charger, didn't help.. it just won't hold the charge even tho two green lights are solid, but one red light does show up..

How are you charging your battery? Every battery has a memory. If you dont let it die the first come times then charge to full the battery will assume 40% is 100%.

Testimonial: "Thank you for your solution, but we've had it at least a year.. it stays on charge when not in use.cleaned the connections.working better, not 100%.."

Is it okay to store my Dyson handheld, DC 16, in the wall charger when not in use? I had heard that the battery life may be affected. Thanks for the helpful answer to my prior question. Phil Glasser

Hi Phil, My charger went bang and doesn't work anymore so my answer is after you have charged your battery remove it and switch your charger of and never charge a full battery. Has to be said also I would never buy another dyson product again, total rubbish.

How do i change battery?

While holding the unit by it's trigger with the nozzle pointed away from you in your right hand, you will see an oval button near the trigger on the left side of the unit. Push that button and the battery should slide out towards the rear.

Here is the quick start guide. The instructions you need are on page 13: http://www.dyson.com/parts/u/user-guide/medialibrary/CDC7C1B5BFF143ABB29D86AE5490E94F.ashx

I hope this helps.

Runs for a few seconds, then stops

Hi Bente, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC16 was the first Dyson handheld vacuum, launched back in 2006. It would have come with a 2-year guarantee, but due to its age it's likely that this has expired now.

However, our experts would be happy to take you through some quick diagnostic checks when you have your machine to hand. This will help determine which part may be at fault - and therefore, what may need replacing to resolve the issue.

If you would like some advice, you can reach our team of experts directly by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My DC16 will start and then stop. I have to take

My DC16 also had charging problems. I called Dyson and they sent a new charger. The old charger only produced 23.6 volts DC, not the rated 28 volts DC. The new charger has a thicker round wire and produces 28.1 volts DC. Put a volt meter on your charger terminals and see if it is producing enough voltage to fully charge the battery, 28 volt DC. If not you need a new charger.

My dc 16 rechargeable vacuum won't work

far as i know the dyson dc 16 root 6 vacuum uses a lithium ion battery with a charge of 21.6 volts. it could be that either your battery isnt storing the right amount of power anymore and you may need to replace it. check on the specifications to confirm how much volts the battery is supposed to have. too little volts may be enough for things like lights to switch on, but not enough for the motor to start up.

My DC 16 will only run for a second each trigger pull. The battery is fully charged, it has plenty of suction, just wont run for more than a second. I cleaned the filters.

I had the same problem with my Dyson DC16, where it only runs for a few seconds at a time with each trigger pull. My husband called Dyson (Canada) and without hassle they shipped us a replacement part which I just received this morning. The replacement part sent to us is: DC16 Main Body with Rating Plate. It is also under warranty for 1 year. The great customer service makes up for the flaw in the machine. Also, Dyson is aware of the problem. Hope this helps.
