Plays music cds but wont play DVDS

In my experience with a Pioneer combination DVD/CD drive, the DVD and CD heads and circuitry are completely separate. So, either one could go inoperative, and leave the other active. Although Kyaw Swar makes a reasonable suggestion, a dirty head is not likely to cause complete failure of a read head, if that is what you have. Of course, you could be one of the few with a dusty/dirty environment and/or you play discs which are occasionally contaminated with dried beverage residue, etc. In that case, there is certainly no harm in trying to clean the head, just to see what happens.
