If when you try to close the door with the remote the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses to the open position you have a door sensor problem. Usually it is because one of them has been bumped and is no longer pointed at the other one. If they are pointed properly they will each have a small light that is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit. If this doesn't work and the lights are not on you most likely have bad sensors.

Why does my 973LM liftmaster remote will only open door bur wont close it?

Most garage door operators (openers) have infrared safety "beams". The door won't close, even with a wired push button, if something is in the way.

Liftmaster 1255lm garage door opener

It sounds like a problem with the infrared safety beams, either they are not working, are misaligned (someone might have kicked/bumped into one), or I even had one that didn't work because there was too many cobwebs/dust covering one of the lenses.

My liftmaster will open with the remote but to close the door, we have to hold down the wall unit. It starts to close, jerks to a stop, then we have to press and hole the button and it closes.

Hi, it is probably the safety photo beams out of alignment or not working, when this happens the garage opener goes into 'dead man' operating mode, ie you need to keep the button pressed for the door to operate. On the Liftmaster remote control, there are two smaller push buttons to the left of the large button which opens the door. What are the two buttons used for?

You could program these buttons to operate other garage door openers or to control other devices that work on the same frequency. http://www.liftmaster.com/consumerweb/products/pflHomeConvenience.htm has light controllers that let you turn on or off a light in your home with the garage door opener. You can easily program one of the small buttons to control the lighting system instead of the main button. (Thus the light would be controlled independently of the door opening and closing.)

Single button remotes can be purchased but currently most garage door openers are sold with the 3 button versions. http://www.liftmaster.com/consumerweb/products/pflRemoteControl.htm

I hope this helps.

(In my household, there are 4 garage door openers installed. When three of the door openers were on the same frequency, we could have had each one respond to a different button on a three-button remote. Now two are on a separate frequency so only two buttons have been programmed on the various remotes. (One group opens the house and workshop; the other opens the house and barn.))

I have a Liftmaster garage door opener & remote. The remote began to work only intermittently. I replaced the battery (I didn't reprogram remote when battery was changed & remote worked for a...

COULD BE A BAD REMOTE, I WOULD TRY ANOTHER ONE FIRST.

COULD BE A FREEZER ETC. PUTTING OUT INTERFERENCE.

OR

Anytime a door opens and/or closes randomly or doesn't work consistently I look for a smashed wire between the motor unit and the wall button.

If the wire is smashed the insulation becomes so thin that power will leak thru the insulation and activate the door or interfere with the remote signal.

Loosen the staples with a small screwdriver and slide the wire about ½ inch to move any areas of thin insulation away from the staples.

The second thing would be a bad wall button or a remote with a sticking button.

Or a remote in someone

Liftmaster 971LM opens but won't close correctly

Check the wiring going to the sensors to make sure it is not broken or disconnected. You have a problem with the sensors themselves or the logic board. Unfortunately the only way to be sure is to replace.

Garage door opener will not respond to security plus remotes

Reset the Liftmaster unit. There should be a red reset button on the unit in the garage. If this does not work, reset the breaker. Good Luck!
