If your hard drive has crashed and you are putting in a new one, you will also have to reinstall the Operating System.
If you are just upgrading to a larger drive, Then you will have to clone it to the new drive.
There is an accesable drive bay on the back side of the Acer v2000. I don't know how to tell you which one, but you won't hurt anything just by opening the doors. Take a look and you will find the one for the hard drive.

I have an older Compaq Presario V2000. I recently had a new hard drive installed with windows xp professional. The S video port won't work when I connect it to the TV.

Make sure the most up to date video/chipset drivers are installed. You can get these at HP's support site listed below, just choose the appropriate V2000 model from the list (your exact model number will be printed on the bottom of your laptop) and download and install these drivers.

Replacing hard drive, just want to know if a WD400...

If you want to replace your hard drive, use WD3200BEVE. Its a 320GIG hard drive and it works perfectly. I installed one in my compaq presario v2403nr.

Hi this hard drive will work with your laptop all it needs to be is to have a SATA connection cable

2.5 inch = laptop
3.5 inch = Computer

Try booting into the BIOS Screen and resetting to factory defaults. If that fails suggest swapping the hard drive out and re-install the Operating System - Save your old data and migrate the data off the old drive. You can buy an external drive adapter to connect the harddrive to a USB port to migrate you data.
