Pentax ME SLR Camera

Hi, I recently decided to take up photography. I was given an old Pentax ME, but it seems to have a problem. As I was checking it out (without film in) I noticed that when I press the button to take a picture, the shutter stays open for a long time (were talking minutes).
I have no previous experience with SLR cameras, so any advice would b greatfully appreciated.

Push the small white button down and turn the select to B or Flash mode the shutter should fire at 1/60th sec. in flash mode. As long as you want in B mode. Turn select to A
put lens on and check shutter speed in finder. Rotate F stop on lens and bring shutter speed to over 1/100 sec. push shutter button, it should fire at the speed you selected.
If not check battery cap and contacts in bat. holder, clean with pencil eraser if needed. Be careful with contacts in holder.
If it still locks up remove lens and rotate to F/16 push metal pin in and check operation of diaphragm, it should be smooth and pin return quickly.
If the shutter still locks in auto that's about it---- no parts are available

Question edited for clarity. All questions need full 'make model (what it is)'. I took a wild guess from 'K1000'. :>D

Why don't they just download what you ask? they give all but what you ask. I want the simple operating instrusions for Pentax SLR camera

Who, exactly, are 'they' ? There are many models of Pentax SLR camera, both film and digital, and there is a different manual pertaining to the care and operation of each of these.

If you go to the Pentax Service Centre relevant to your place of residence, all the available manuals will probably be there. If the one that you require is not available, you may find it by doing a Google search for the make and model, followed by the word Manual.

Pentax ME super advance film doesn't get caught

This is a known fault with this retro model, I'm afraid - over time, the plastic gears get worn, and eventually fail. Solutions are mentioned on the Pentax Forums.

Hello, I have not been using my Pentax zX5n for a while. Recently I decided to use it again and was surprised to discover that after loading a new batteries that it would not start. Actually after loading...

Have the old batteries leaked in the battery compartment ? Also, when you removed the previous film, did you set the camera into rewind mode ? If not, you have probably damaged the winding motor beyond economical repair.
