Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

PS3 Blu-Ray connected to Sony Bravia TV with HDMT cable. DTVHD receiver connected to TV with HDMI cable and audio optical cable from DTVHD receiver to Yamaha HTR-640 optical input (DTV/CB). Optical cable from PS3 output to Yamaha 640 optical input (CD). Surround sound from DTV works fine, but no sound when I play a blu-ray DVD on the PS3.

Hey!! I'm having the EXACT same issue!! Except I'm using a Yamaha HTR-6030... and getting no sound out of the receiver. My DTV receiver works wonderfully through the AV receiver... have you figured out the problem?

Is Yamaha HTR-640 a receiver? Try HDMI from PS3 to receiver or Sony HDTV. If HDMI from PS3 to receiver the you need and HDMI from receiver to out Sony HDTV. You could connect everything to receiver and HDMI out to HDTV. You can not have an HDMI cable AND an optical cable coming out of the PS3, only one or the other.

Solved problem with Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver. My daughter had inadvertently changed the program to "Direct Stereo" mode which allows sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors so you can listen to 2-Channel PCM and Analog sources. Nothing to decode digital audio in this setting!

When watching blu-ray movie on playstation 3, (hdmi to tv), digital out to reciever, only will play in stereo, no surround sound. please help

You must verify that the settings on your PS3 and the tv allow for Dolby or DTS output. Most tvs are set from the factory for stereo.

No sound

I had the same problem on 3/21/09...I found it was the PS3 settings. I had to go into the visual settings (not sound) and change the linear sound to optic digital...but I also had to purchase a digital optical cable...plug everything into your tv instead of the receiver and then hook up the digital optical cable from your tv to the receiver. A it will work and b it is a better sound quality than that of the HDMI cable.

Muffled sound from rear speakers why watching TV

switch the HDMI cables around to make sure its not one of them, if the problem is one of them it will move with the cable,if no change i would suspect the coaxial cable next.

How to hook up everything!

I have similar equipment.

You should use an audio digital cable to connect the bluray to the Yamaha receiver and another digital audio cable to connect the HD box to the Yamaha receiver.

Hope this helps.

PS3 connection to Yamaha HTR-6130 Av Receiver

URNOTME is right. HDMI is great and all, but wish i would have spent a few more dollars on a unit that supports switching. htr-6130 does pass-through, so you have to use seperate audio connections. really there is no use running HDMI into the receiver and then into the receiver and THEN to the tv. just go straight to the tv, then run your audio either optical (best) or coaxial.
