The date stamp only works in "Postcard" resolution. Press the "Func Set" button, then scroll down to the bottom to select postcard resolution. Then press the menu button. Select the "Camera" menu, then scroll down to the the Date Time Stamp selection to turn it on.

Canon Power Shot A1100 IS date won't appear on the photo

The date and time (and a lot more) are stored with every picture in its EXIF metadata. Any photo viewing/editing program should be able to display this data. To print this data, please consult the documentation for whatever program you're using to print your pictures. Depending on the program and printer you may print the date on the image, in the margins, or on the back.

My Canon digital camera puts the date and time on the photo, but when I sent away for prints (used Kodak.com) the prints were just stamped with the day the print was made, not the date the photo was taken....

When you download the pics to your computer and view them, is the date and time on the pics then? If not, then your camera is not including the info on the pic itself.

Putting a date on the pics i take with a canon powershot

Hi Steve, thanks for coming to FixYa.

First, for your model of camera, you do know that you can only Print the date and time the pic was taken on the photo right? It does not embed the date and time data into the image, like some cameras do.
Here is a direct quote from the manual if you want to check my information. You will find it on page 21. "Setting the date and time settings does not cause the date/time stamp to appear on the images."

This may/maynot be what you wanted, either way let me know with a comment. I can describe how to set the date and time in the camera's setup menu for you if you want, and/or I can tell you how to make sure you print the date and time on your photos. Otherwise, have fun with your camera and please rate my solution a fixya.
