BSOD and 0xF78AA528 error at splash screen.

I decided to work on myCompaq Presario laptop. I swapped out the hard drive with a 250 gig from another laptop and reinstalled XP. It took forever and quite a few attempts. Now all I get is the BSOD at the splash screen and 0xF78AA528. I've wiped the HD and reformatted it numerous times. At this point I don't know what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: Will not install Video controllers(VGA)or PCI Modem

Have you gone to HP/ Compaqs web site to download files for your computer. I have noticed there are several updates for your model of laptop. Including BIOS and Video updates.Go to compaqs web site and under support do a search for your laptop. This is the link I came up with for the model you have given me. Please make sure it is the right model. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Hard Drive with password protected.

I had the same problem. This is how I reset my password on a compaq or hp nc6320.
1. unplug the power cord
2. unplug the battery
3. take two screws from the ram cover on the back of the laptop (see youtube for this step)
4. open the keyboard
5. unplug the cmos battery cable (very easy to do)
6. plug power cable and turn on the laptop
7. laptop would erase passwords.
8. put everything back together.

A pleasure to help.

SOURCE: SCARY!! BLUE SCREEN AND RESTARTING LAPTOP,

As long as isn't a hardware incompatibility problem or some loose components or broken, it's their problem!...I mean, if you have the warranty, it's their obligation to fix it.

But if you're lucky, the problem could be with the Windows XP that you've just installed.Try and find another windows XP to install.

If you want, you could install Windows XP Unlimited
I have it right now installed on my laptop and it's really usefull.Try downloading this, nurn the image on a CD and install it and you'll see the difference ;) Good luck!

SOURCE: compaq presario v3000 laptop..doesnt recongize the hard drive

I beleive that you are trying to install retail versions of XP which will not be able to detect the Hard Drive in the Notebook as it is a SATA drive and Windows XP will not be having the drivers for SATA Hard Drives by default.
In this situation, I recommend you to check and disable the SATA Native support  option available in the BIOS.
Start the Notebook and start tapping the F10 key which will take you to to the BIOS Setup window.
In this, go to the System Configuration tab using the Arrow keys and select the option as Disabled next to SATA Native Support.
Press the F10 key again to save the settings done and exit BIOS.
Now, you should be able to use the Windows XP disk and install Windows XP Operating System in your Notebook without any issues.
By disabling the SATA Native Feature, the Hard Drive of the Notebook will be detected as a IDE Drive because of which we will be able to install XP without any issues.

Donot Re-Enable this feature in the BIOS again as the Operating System may not boot. Let the option next to SATA Native Support be Disabled.
Hope this helps...

What is the largest drive I should put in my Compaq Presario 2200 PC Notebook?

Usually the drive which can be put in your machine depends on what you want to use the machine for. But usually to attain optimum performance it is advisable to put in a hard disk in accordance to the RAM on your system. The ration of RAM to hard drive should be about 1 Gig Ram to 100Gig Hard drive. This should help you decide what size of drive to put.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

My laptop won't boot! What should I do?

No power? Blue Screen Of Death? Blinking cursor? Black screen?
Need more info.
For anything other than a BSOD or error message:
Try unplugging from power, remove the battery, hold the power button 30 seconds. Then reinstall battery, plug in, and turn on.
If you are getting something like 'NTLDR not found' or 'Boot Sector not found', Hard disk blah blah blah etc. you might need a new hard drive or to repair errors on your existing one.
For BSOD, try starting in safe mode. If that fails, try using a bootable antivirus disk to remove any viruses or other junk and reboot.

Blue screen and the charger works sometimes

blue screen aka bsod. when you get this bsod it will show you stop error code. you need to get the code to identify the exact issue you're having. If the bsod occures after the dell logo issue might be the video card or memory. if the bsod occures after windows logo then if might be caused by a corrupted windows updates or windows system file corruption. if the bsod occured after dell logo then check your memory if you have 2 ram modules try to remove 1 ram first then try booting your system using only 1 ram, try to swap and isolate reseat and teach eash slot on each ram module. if bsod occures after windows logo then try to run a test for your hard drive Fn+Power. If no errors it might be windows file corruption which needs to be restored or re-installing OS.

I have a Compaq presario V2000. Right now I have 60gig internal hard drive. Is there a max internal hardrive I should purchase? I can buy up to 250 gigs? How much would you recommend I purhcase?

Usually, the more storage the better. You can go up to 260 gig total with a primary 100 gig drive and a secondary 160 gig drive. Note that with the extra drive, the unit will use more power so think about that first.

Compaq presario r3000 amd athlon laptop cuts off after 10 minutes

from my experience this might be one of two things...

if it's shutting down while you're installing windows, i'm thinking you might have a problem with the motherboard channel for your CD drive. i saw this happen to a computer at work - we couldn't install windows because it cut off halfway through and blue screened on us.

it might also be a case of a bad hard drive, if you have any testing utility like drive fitness test i'd give that a shot. it sounds like a new one, but they're bad out of the box sometimes.

hope this helps

MS-DOS edit command help edit c:\autoexec.bat = This would look at the autoexec.bat; However, if the file is not found, you will have a blank blue screen.
