Sound gone the sound is completely gone for no apparent reason, as if the Mute is on. If I turn the volume to maximum output, I can hear a distant sound in my speakers but that's it.

thanks mrwtech but this did not help, just tried it and still the same issue persists: no sound on any channel but a distant one.

Disconnect everything in the back of the unit. reconnect only the cd to the imputs. also, just to be sure, disconnect all speakers(label them). fire it up,play a CD, connect the speakers 1 at a time. If the 1st works you have hope ,if not, try each channel individualy. The one that reduces volume is the problem-maybe shorted cable, bad speaker,or , God forbid-Bad amp Channel. good luck

do you have a technical school nearby? This is exactly what they teach. Find'em, use 'em.Your problem could be several things
depending on your electronic experience, check OP-Amps on pre 2, if the zone 2 mains work, that indicates pre amp out at least get to the main zone 2 amps. could be as simple as a loose PCB connection.otherwise, get a tech.

How come people can't hear me from my headset?

Volume only has to do with the sound level you hear.

The only thing that affects the sound the other ends hears is the microphone, Have you tried moving the mic? Has the headset ever worked properly?

If the other end hears you at all, then the headset SHOULD NOT be muted, but it's worth checking out. They put the mute switch on the underside of the boom mic and sometimes people hit the switch by mistake when moving the boom.

Hello, I have an RT 2870 RCA surround sound system. When I turn it on all I hear is static and its not until I crank the volume up to around 25-30 before I can hear the audio. How would I fix this problem?

NEVER USE MAXIMUM VOLUME FOR TROUBLESHOOTING.

Turn the volume control to something medium.

The errant switch, control or condition may change and you will suddenly release the amp's full power and possibly destroying your speakers. If a signal isn't audible at 1/2 volume it's probably not there.

Carefully examine the front panel for clues like a misplaced Mute or Tape Monitor control or Multichannel Analog Input selected.

There is a good chance that a common control (volume pot??) may have developed a high-resistance or 'dead' spot through defect or idleness and is causing your symptom. Turn the POWER OFF and operate every control throughout its range a number of times, especially rarely-used ones like Tape Monitors and the Mute control.

Turn the volume to something reasonable and see if that helped.

I have a yamaha "htr-5630"

NEVER USE MAXIMUM VOLUME FOR TROUBLESHOOTING. The errant switch or control that you eventually find and flip will suddenly release the amp's full power and you'll destroy your speakers. If a signal isn't audible at 1/2 volume, for all intents and purposes it's not there.

Look for a misplaced Mute or Tape Monitor control or Multichannel Analog Input selected.

Fender ultra deluxe amp volume max out a number 7 volume control. will not get any louder

It is likely that the amp is flat topped at the 7 setting. When the amp is producing the maximum voltage output it is capable of, that is ALL you can get out of it... The numbers on the dial mean NOTHING and are only relative. If you have high output guitars you might find the maximum might only be 3 on the dial for example...
If you need it louder, get a bigger amp and speakers. You should ALSO get a sound meter and follow OSHA guidelines for sound exposure... I know several musicians that now are nearly deaf because of being exposed to high sound levels... their music careers are now gone as they can no longer hear well enough. You need to protect your hearing for the long term. Great musicians don't need loud, but quality and inovation in their music.

Minimal sound output

Very well could be your amp setup. The only reason you would get lound sound from the stereo is if the mute is on or the audio outputs are fried. have you tried to hook up the stereo directly to a single speaker?
