DSS25KSRD SS GE Adora refrigerator- ice in tray melts and refreezes at the bottom of freezer. food defrosts also, seems like maybe defrost may be running too long and heating up the ice storage bin? Have since turned off ice maker hoping to resolve the issue. this morning the meat on top rack was defrosted, however, i have a bag of ice toward bottom wich did not seem to have melted at all.

It sounds like the # 4 thermistor is bad . You will have to remove the lower inside rear freezer panel ( 2 or 4 screws ) and on the top of the coils , you will see a 1 " long torpedo looking piece , clipped on , with 2 white wires going to it . Part number WR55X10025 . This thermistor , tells the maon control board , the temperature of the freezer coils ( evaporator ) and when to defrost and when to stop defrosting and turn the compressor back on . There is also a defrost thermostat which cuts the heater off to keep from over heating , but I do not believe this is part of your problem . You should also replace the # 5 thermistor , located behind the oval grill , mounted on the lower right side of the freezer . This thermistor , tells the main control board , the temperature of the freezer section .

What are the part numbers for the other thermistor (#5), should I just replace both and the defrost thermostat? I'm having the exact issue.

Do you know the part # for thermistor #5? I'm having the exact problem and figure I should just replace all of them. Should I do the thermostat as well?

GE side by side refrigerator model no TFG20JAWWW 627 litre is occasionally leaking water

Check the drip tray in the freezer section where defrost water drips from the defrost heater melting frost during the defrost cycle. If ice blocks the drain hole in the tray inside the freezer(usually behind the evaporator cover) the defrost water will travel into the bottom of the freezer & onto your floor. Some models also have a second evaporator in the fresh food section. A blocked drain or clogged defrost drain tube can cause the problem.

I have a GE DSS25KSRD side-by-side refrigerator, and it's only 2-3 years old. Recently, from time to time (not always), the upper part of the freezer is not cold enough, and the bottom part of the fridge...

Hows the temp in the fridge side? this could be just going through the auto defrost cycle. It will get warm to melt off the ice on the evaporator coils. Heat rises so it will get warmer at the top. After the defrost cycle, all should return to normal. Make sure the fan runs too. I suspect this is normal... unless your food is thawing out.

Model #PSS26PSSA SS Freezer frequently defrosts and refreezes. When this occurs, the entire ice bin melts into the freezer compartment and refreezes in puddles. Is this a common issue with this model and...

Absolutely not ! There are two types of defrost systems - timer (which relies on compressor run time) and adaptive (newer models) which relies on sensors and an electronic control and will defrost as needed...... During a defrost cycle your comrpessor and evap fan should be off, everything off - and no, a defrost cycle will NOT thaw your food in the freezer, not even your ice should melt ! To me this sounds like a defrost control problem - First thing service should check is your defrost timer and its components (control board, limiter, defrost thermostat, etc.) something is definately wrong.

Now with the advice above I am assuming that before the defrost cycle kicks in your freezer temp was in the normal range 10F and colder (0F is optimal) and refrigerator section cooler than 40F (optimal 34F). If so, then you should not have melting ICE in your freezer.

Freezer Does Not Stay Frozen

one of the hardest things to diagnous is food defrosting in the freezer. i found out the hard way about 35 years ago, but not until i banged my head against the wall a few times. the problem was the customer didn't have enough food in the freezer as she was a weekender.frozen food needs frozen food to keep the food frozen confused? so was i . every time your refrigerator goes into defrost( usually every 8 hours) a heating coil comes on in the back of the freezer. if the freezer is not full enough this heater can raise the temperature in the freezer to 40 degrees which will soften the food and melt the ice considering the time it takesto refreeze the food. i never forgot that service in fact i can see it in my head right now.. try this cure first let me know
