You can install the printer software both either using the cd software that is included in the package or you can download the software www.hp.com/support. Make sure that you are installing the correct printer operating software. instead of doing a recommended installation choose advance install and uncheck the software that you think that is not needed by you. hp solution center is an important software. also the hp imaging device. but before you proceed in installing make sure that your anti-virus, firewall, spyware are turned off. There are times that the printer software function will not work because it is being blocked by the firewall, spyware and anti-virus. enjoy installing the printer.
If you do have a software cd put in the software ithout conecting the printer to the computer and do not turn onn the printer
go to my computr >> and open d: drive
now once the cd plays select install
after that it will ask you how would you like to install the printer (select USB or wireless )
click next
then will ask you to what can of installation do you ant to do ......... select recommended
after that it will ask you to connect the printer to the computer if it is a USB connection
turn on the computer and connect the usb cable to the computer
it will configure the printer and at the end it will ask you to print a test page ... click on yes and see whether it is printing .................... if yes the printer has been successfully installed in your computer and if no .................. let us jnow what exactly happens and do you get any error message .......................

Take the cartridge out and clean the contacts off with something (ie: pencil eraser, your thumb...) That worked for me! I couldn't find a solution anywhere even after chatting with online tech support from HP. Quick and painless! I hope this helps...
