Bad HDD? Have you tried a system restore/recovery. Reboot, at preboot repeatedly tap the F-11 key try to get to system restore/recovery.If it's an old machine you may need to replace the HDD.

Its trying to boot from a cd or dvd in the drive that is not bootable--take it out or change the boot order in the BIOS (F2 or DEL at startup)

Try another hard drive in the system, sounds like the drive is going bad, then after replacing the hard drive, then go ahead and recover the system. Bad sectors on a hard drive can make it where it won't restore.

If you can get your hands on a windows boot disk, then you can try to format the hard drive, wiping it out and installing it can fix that problem as well.

Normally this means the cpu is trying to boot from your cd drive and it is a non system disk in the drive. When you boot your cpu open the drive and make sure it is empty. If so if you have any other disks or mem cards in the cpu then remove them and your cpu should start up. If this is not the case, let me know and I will help you further.

can u try to boot into safe mode f8 if not boot into bios than go to your harddrive area and see if it can find your harddrive and try the default settings and save and reboot also make sure there is no cd rom in the drive and there is no floppy in the drive

Check your floppy drive and see if there's a disk in it and remove it. If there is no diskette in the floppy drive and you are still getting the error. You can go into the Bios and turn off the "boot from floppy drive", that way it will not look for the floppy drive when booting up. Hope this helps.

You need to reboot using the first disc in the series. Make sure that the AC adapter is plugged in, and check your bios settings and disable any power managment settings, in order to prevent the machine from going into standby, sleep, etc.

You should be able to make it through the entire series. If you can't, you may need to contact HP for a new set of discs, or if you have an HP authorized service provider, such as a Staples, Best Buy, etc; they can usually get the CDs a lot faster, and usually at the same cost, or maybe a little higher.

Ththe comuter is presumably fdinding a disk at boot up.
Ensure there are no disk in the drives.

It's either the MBR damaged, or the good old fashion "must be master or slave." Check if the HD is visible in the bios. If it is, try to save you data first with any type of pe disc (some even let you scan and fix the mbr), and a flash or portable hard drive. Next install windows or fix the mbr. If it's not visible, check the motherboard connectors of the ide cables. Make sure nothing is bent, then set your drives to slave and master. Even if it's a single drive set it to master. Last but not least, check your boot priority. Make sure either the cd or hd is first.
