Maps Do you know a way to download maps for other countries different than the ones pre-installed in the GPS unit or with the NV-U70 CD?

Visit the website of Magellan for your country or their global site. Find the maps, pay for them and download to your computer. You will have access to the installation instructions. Usually you install some software by Magellan, you connect your device to your computer and the proprietary software will install them on the GPS.

I see you have not included the brand and model of your gps, those would be helpful.

It sounds like there are no maps installed in the GPS, you would have to connect it to your computer, install the software that came with it and possibly a CD that contains the maps.

You would have to install the software cd and then the maps cd if it is on different disk.

The user manual that came with your product will have instructions on how to load the maps into the gps.

The gps will not be able to update the maps if there are no maps installed there. As for download, I do not know what you are attempting to download.

Please follow the instructions and let me know how it goes. If you do need further assistance then please atleast include the brand and model of your machine, also it would be helpful to let me know what happened before the issue came up, did you delete files from the gps or? is this a brand new unit?

Yea, I can solve the problem by ordering the up dated CD for maps of the US, this allows me to only use the GPS by regions, not the entire US. It costs $59.00. I am at this time unemployed so I guess I wait for better days.

Unfortunately you cannot install Sony North American maps on your GPS but you can add another GPS application as iGO8 etc.
Let me know if you decide to sell your GPS here in Canada.

I have had a problem like yours and yes there is software that will get you back in but you should try Windows XP Startup disk or Windows XP CD to use Recovery Console. When either of these two is inserted, restart your computer. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console. Once the Recovery Console is open, type your Administrator password (blank by default) and input fixmbr to get MBR fixed.
Note that the fixmbr command may damage your partition table (part of MBR) if a hardware problem exists. You may also create inaccessible partitions by this command. sadly,you cannot purchase/download any maps of foreign countries on the nv-u70.

I'm about to return my Jensen NVX430BT because apparently the maps cannot be updated! The maps installed on the unit I just received are obviously outdated and there is no support from Jensen to get them updated. Too bad, this thing has it all except good directions.
