My brother tried to read the memory card (a Lexar 1gb premium 60x) using a simm slot in his PC but was not able to. When I tried to use the card after replacing it in the camera I got the above message. Any ideas about what I can do to get the images back?

Could be different voltages - some cards are 5V (older ones) and some are 3V or 3.3V. Wrong voltages can cause damage or corruption. The card may have become damaged or corrupted if supplied with 5V instead of the lower voltage. Not sure if you can recover it.

I have the EXACT same problem. Did you figure out how to retrieve the pics? I know mine were there in Colorado. But at -25, my camera "froze." I figured when it thawed that the card might not have an error but I was wrong! HELP! It also contained my sister's wedding pictures and the first time my 7 & 8 yr. olds saw snow!
I have the same problem with a transcend 1gb card

Exactly the same problem here. Got my camera in Dec 2007, got the Lexar SD, 1GB card, worked beautifully until yesterday. I tried to view a few pictures and got error. When I pressed playback button to view pics the screen goes black and then I recevied the message "this card connot be used". I have used this card and camera for hundreds of pics, transferred and deleted them fine until now. Help!!!!!
Try Formatting the Card.... I had a similar problem with one of my Cards and after a format it worked perfectly again..... Just make sure to do it in the CAMERA
