I have a problem with Sony KP-57WV600: When I turn it on there is sound and a blue picture for about 10 seconds then the screen goes black, sound continues ok. There is a red light on the front panel that blinks 7 times. Any Idea what the problem is? I would appreciate any asisstance.

Rowdyroddy,

Thanks you so much for this info.

I had the same problem with my Sony KW-57wv600. Blue screen turns black after a few seconds, and then standby light flashes seven times.

I called a local TV technician, and described problem. I was told it would not be cost effective to fix. After reviewing the "simple" instructions given on www.somelifeblog.com/2007/06/sony-projection-tv-red-line-repair.html I figured I had nothing to lose.

10 minutes to remove front panel, a "very slight" turn of a screw, and TV worked again perfectly. I could not believe it!

Thank you so much for your help!

SHAME ON SONY FOR NOT POSTING THIS FIX ON THEIR WEBSITE! SHAME ON THE TECHNICIAN AT SONY WHICH INSISTED A SERVICE TECHNICIAN WAS REQUIRED.

I have always been a fan of Sony, swearing by Sony products exclusively. After this experience, I am now forced to consider some other options when purchasing electronics in the future.

I have a service manual for this TV with all the board layouts and lots of info. I am willing to share if someone can help with this problem. So far I have only been able to determine that I have the same problem, that either 1) a +B overcurrent is detected (IC5007), or
2) overheating is detected (Thermistor TH5002).

P.S. The overcurrent is detected by too much current flowing throught R5013.

Sony projection tv turns to a blue screen almost immediately and then turns black seconds after that.

Hello, it sounds like the blue crt has a cathode short in it and causes an overdrive situation putting the set into shutdown. The crt's are no longer available.

I have a Sony KP-57WV600 projec. have picture for 10 seconds then screen turns blue for 10 sec.then black and I still have sound red light does blink but I dont know how many times. Called Sony they told...

You have a shorted blue CRT (picture tube)

The problem is that these TVs are known to have defective CRTs but Sony can no longer supply them. There is a company in Texas that rebuilds them, but its an expensive repair.

Its a shame that Sony has not been forced to take care of their customers. I've replaced hundreds of these CRTs and seen hundreds more after the supply ran out.

Sony knew about this issue way back in 2002 but only resolved complaints for a limited time and did nothing to notify owners whom they could easily indentify by serial number.

Let's hope we don't give up our auto industry or we'll soon see the same behavior there.

Sony kp-57wv600 tv turns on shows picture then blinks blue a few times and then shuts off....stnadby light blinks 7 times...whats the problem

Its either blue tube or bad componet on blue CRT board hertes how to know disconnect Blue CRT board connect to neck of blue tube turn set on see what happens if set come on and plays then this lets you know if it is a problem with tube/video ic on crt board. If set shuts back off different problem.
