Testimonial: "Your solution worked but now I have to do this (go to Solution Center) every time I want to scan. But I can scan :)"

I had the same problem and what works for me is this:

    1) go to start menu and find HP folder
    2) go to "HP Document Manager"
    3) make sure your printer is connected to your computer
    4) There is a scan icon at the top, when you click on that you can scan your documents with options to choose from such as document type, where to save it, managing files, etc.

    Hope this helps!

Can't scan- Refer to device documentation to

Try using widows paint. Look in windows accessories off the start program menu. If you open windows paint, look for open file from "Scanner or Camera". Most likely you can get the scanner to work again in Vista. Otherwise...try Vuescan scanner software. I think you can get a free trial period online and it should also work. You'll have to pay for that if you like it.

Refer to device documentation to trouble shoot

you need to set up your scan to option.
this can be done from the hp software
open solution center click settings then scan settings
from there select scan to set up
a window will open and then click on front panel destination list
once again a window will open with a double pane on the left side is your short cut options click on them one at a time click add then once satisfied with options click update the device or ok
if it fails to update reset the printer and try those steps again, or re install just the drivers
if the same message appears then check the settings on your firewall

My printer is evidently installed correctly, since I am able to print OK, but I cannot scan, I get an error message when I press start scan and OK - "no scan option", and refer to "device documentation"

on your computer go to hp solution center..
under that go to settings..
then scan button settings..
over there add all options to the right side..
then try..
