Somebody knows the valve clearance spec for the 3 cylinder JD 755 tractor

Some mechanics use a stethoscope with a simple metal tube probe instead of cup to narrow down where a sound comes from.

Without actually hearing it, my first guess would be valve tap (sound comes from the cylinder head or one side of the block near the head). This could indicate an oil pressure problem, worn or sticky valve lifter, or a rocker arm that needs adjustment. If the oil is low or dirty, try adding or changing as needed.

Another possibility is a noisy fuel injector. although I've literally never heard of that. Try a fuel injector cleaner made for diesel engines.

Glow plugs aren't supposed to have moving parts to make noise. I suppose a defective plug with a poorly sealed heater element could do it, but I would think you'd have rough running and maybe see the glow plug cable vibrating unusually.

is this a multi cylinder diesel farm tractor or what
remember that questions go global and you have to be specific in details as a jd unit 202 in your country may be a 1212 or what ever in another country
however moving on , if it has more than 2 cylinders , the problem can be a head gasket blown between adjacent cylinders , cracked head or valve problem ( burnt or incorrect valve adjustment)
same ideas apply to petrol engines as well

There is a specific procedure for setting valve clearance . I highly recommend getting a repair manual for the correct specs & procedure. The engine must be at TDC with the #1 cylinder on the compression stroke , that will allow you to adjust ONLY certain valves , then you have to turn the engine one turn to TDC again only now #1 will be on the exhaust stroke & the rest of the valves can be adjusted . it's important that you know the difference between the two !

Remove the plugs. Turn the engine so the pistion is at top dead center for cylinder. Clearance should 0.010 when adjusting rocker to valve. Repeat for other side. I just replaced my cam shaft if a 1993 JD445. I'm planning to run for a couple of hours then check cleanace again. Hope this helps, Gerry

The adjustment is .003 - .005. You must hold the rocker arm by lifting up on the valve depressing side and pressing down on the push-rod side while making the adjustment. Any other means of adjustment and it will be incorrect.

Valve Clearance Inspection
NOTE
?? Valve clearance must be checked when the engine is cold (at room
temperature).
• Remove the rocker cover (see Cylinder Head Removal).
• Place the piston at top dead center (TDC) of the compression stroke
turning the crankshaft clockwise facing the flywheel.
No.1 Cylinder:
?? The left projection [A] on the flywheel is faced with the right leg [B]
on the #1 ignition coil [C] as shown.
?? Check the intake and exhaust valves are closed completely, if not turn
the flywheel one turn (360??) clockwise and face the left projection with
the right leg again.
No.2 Cylinder:
?? The left projection [A] on the flywheel is faced with the right leg [B]
on the #2 ignition coil [C] as shown. Follow No.1 Cylinder alignment.
• Then check the valve clearance.
?? Using a thickness gauge [A], measure the valve clearance between
the rocker arm [B] and the valve stem end.
If the valve clearance is incorrect, adjust it.
Valve Clearance (when cold)
Intake, Exhaust 0.075 0.125 mm (0.003 0.005 in.)

make sure engine is warmed up. Put cylinder one at top dead center,remove the valve cover,loosen all adjustment lock nuts,adust intake and exhaust valves on cyl #1 and intake valve on #2 and exhaust valve on #3. now rotate crankshaft 360 degrees clockwise, now adjust intake valves on cyl#3 and cyl #4 and exhaust valves on cyl #2 and cyl #4.now tighten lock nuts and install valve cover. specs are intake valves 25mm clearance and exhaust 28mm clearance, use a feeler gauge,heres a picture to show you where to check clearance.

0.08mm-0.13 mm- intake top 0.13mm-0.18mm- exhaust bottom

with the cylinder set at top dead center compression. using a feeler gauge between the tappets and the valves there should be .002-.003in clearance on the intake valves, and .006-.007in. clearance on the exhaust valves. thank you.
