MagicJack does not work with all fax machines. If you can find it you must turn off ECM or error correction mode. Also select the slowest transmission speed possible. If you have the manual for it you should be able to find the settings in there.

I have an HP J6480 AOI Printer. I found lowering the baud rate from fast to medium works well. I just sent my 13th multupage fax without a problem.

SOURCE: My epson fax machine is hooked to magic jack and

Can I fax using Magic Jack? This is a popular question. They do not support faxes, but the answer is yes. You may need to do some tweaking. However, not much tweaking. First, turn off error correction on your fax machine or program. Then, set the fax machine or program to use the slowest speed available. The slowest speed will ensure a fax goes through. You may increase later to find the highest speed at which a fax can be received.

I had same problem when I used the dual jack. I had to change it. I had the dual jack which would make it easier to use when I was going to send a fax.

SOURCE: Cannot receive faxes on Canon Pixma MX870, but can send faxes

I was searching for an answer to this to make sure my new MX870 is correctly set to receive faxes. Here's one answer I came across:

First set Tel-Priority, turn off incoming ring, turn on manual/auto switch, then check how many seconds it takes for your answering machine to come on, and set it a couple of seconds after that. This should do the trick.

I need to connect my fax whit the magicjack

A voice over Internet protocol device, magicJack allows you to make and receive telephone calls from your computer using a USB device. While magicJack does not officially support sending and receiving faxes, you can connect a regular fax machine to the magicJack device to send and receive faxes.
Attach the magicJack device to a USB port on your computer.
Connect the phone wire to the port at the end of the magicJack device.
Connect the other end of the phone wire to the "Input" jack on your fax machine.
Turn off error correction on your fax machine, and set your fax machine to the lowest possible transmission speed. Consult your fax machine's user guide if you do not know how to turn off the error correction or lower the transmission speed on your fax machine.
Send a fax to your magicJack phone number to receive a fax. You can find your magicJack phone number at the top of the magicJack splash screen that will display on your computer after inserting the magicJack device.
Send a fax from your magicJack by loading the fax you want to send into your fax machine and pressing the "Send" button.

How do I change baud rate on Lexmark X5650 in

Just to set your expectation, MagicJack phone service may work but Lexmark does not recommend the printer to be connected to a digital phone signal (e.g. MagicJack, Vonage, etc.) since there are lots of jitter and packet loss in the transmission signal resulting to fax failures. The Lexmark fax machine will have its optimum performance when connected to an analog signal(regular telephone line). But here's how to configure the printer's baud rate. From the Control Panel, press Settings(wrench icon)> Fax Setup, hit Ok > Dialing and Sending, hit Ok > Max Send Speed, hit Ok > set down the speed to 9600 bps. Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, leave a comment and I'll get back to it. Thanks.

How can i use my fax with magic jack.using lexmark X2350

This is the answer that I got from the FAQ page.
SOMETIMES.
We do not officially support using faxing with magicJack.
Please try the following steps to use magicJack with your fax (contact your fax manufacturer for details):
  1. Turn off error correction on your fax machine or program
  2. Set the fax machine or program to use the slowest speed available
  3. Increase the speed, checking at each speed that faxes work
It seems that it depends upon the faxing unit that you use.

Able to send faxes but unable to receive.

you need to check how the fax machine is setup for receiving faxes. i recommend you try it first without the answering machine, to see if it works. if it doesnt, then it has to do with the auto answer or the number of rings not set right, if it does work, it could be that you need to set it to check for fax while the answering machine is answering, check the manual under answering faxes.

My HP 6310 printer / fax is too far away from the phone line. Is there a way to fax wirelessly using this printer?

Only if you have fax software on your computer and scan an image to the computer to fax, otherwise you need a really long phone cable you can buy at Radio Shack or Best Buy.

Using MagicJack for faxing; however, Brother MFC 290C is stating poor line condition - why? Also say's low ink Magenta - would that create this problem?

I had the same problem trying to send out faxes out using my Brother MFC 7340. I use a magic jack phone line. Page 106 of the user manual says if sending via VOIP phone line, you should press menu, then 2, 0, 1 to select "Basic (for VOIP) mode. Then press ok. Then press stop/exit. This cuts the modem speed down to 9600 bps and turns ECM off. Then retry to send the fax. I did that and can now send and receive faxes.

I have my fax machine hooked up through a magic jack. how do i change fax speed?

I contacted the folks at MagicJack today and for faxes they confirm your findings. They suggest the following: We do not officially support using faxing with MagicJack. Please try the following steps to use MagicJack with your fax (contact your fax vendor for details):
- turn off error correction on your fax machine or program
- set the fax machine or program to use the slowest speed available
- increase the speed, checking at each speed that faxes work

The change must come through your fax machine, not the MJ.

HERE is a link to the manual for your fax machine.

If you are having problems sending or
receiving a fax due to possible interference
on the phone line, we recommend that you
adjust the Equalization for compatibility to
reduce the modem speed for fax operations.
a Press Menu, 2, 0, 2.
b Press a or b to choose Normal (or
Basic).
Basic reduces the modem speed to
9600 bps. Unless interference is a
recurring problem on your phone
line, you may prefer to use it only
when needed.
Normal sets the modem speed at
14400 bps. (Default)
Press OK.
c Press Stop/Exit.
Note
When you change the compatibility to
Basic, the ECM feature is only available
for color fax sending.

There are only 2 speed settings. Since the MJ does not support faxing, if the slower 9600 bps does not work, you will be unable to fax with the MJ.
