2x2GB identical memory cards are inserted (into the yellow banks of the Asus M2V), but the bios sees only 3,2 GB of it. What is the problem?

I think you may be usinf DDR DUAL channel memory under XP
If this is the case it is normal on a lot of machines.
XP has a memory limit and you have reached it.
If it is dual channel you will still have a noticable difference in overall speed.
No problem. This is how a Windows 32 bit o/s allocates RAM. To see it all you'd need a 64 bit o/s. Hope this helps.
Is the memory has the same speed... if not!!!,,, u can't longer have a 4gb memory... try to look for it..
