The other expert's solution here gives you the information and practical steps you need to know about what to do to change the memory in a computer.

here is some additional background information you should know specifically about the Acer Aspire L320. this pc is a small form factor (sff) pc. as is common with sff computers the Acer Aspire L320 is based on laptop/notebook rather than desktop pc technology.

unscrewing the single large central silver cross-head screw at the back of the pc means the right hand side panel is free to slide out. slide backwards and lift up to remove the side panel. sliding this panel out will break the green Acer warranty seal on the right hand side of the pc so make sure your warranty has expired before going ahead and breaking this seal.

once it is open inside you will also see three small black plastic clips which hold the front plastic panel of the pc to the case. gently lever each of the three clips upwards and forwards with your thumbnail to release the front plastic panel. disconnect cable connecting the front panel to the inside of the pc (the front panel cable connector near the usually yellow Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) or Real Time Clock (RTC) battery in the front top corner of the pc is easier to disconnect and reconnect than the one on the panel itself). thread the loose cable through the oval slot in the metal frame near the top of the front of the pc case. put the disconnected front panel to one side.

you will also see a silver panel with a black plastic handle in the center. this panel is connected to the hard disk drive cradle that contains the hard disk drive underneath. you will also see towards the center of the inside of the pc about one inch from the back of the pc a small black cross-head screw that fixes the black handled silver panel to the rest of the pc.

use a magnetic screwdriver so you don't lose the screw when you unscrew it. removing this screw means you can now partly lift the silver panel with the black handle and the attached hdd out of the pc case. using your thumb and index finger loosen and disconnect the hdd power and data cables near the back of the inside of the pc. put the silver panel and hdd to one side.

now you will be able to see the two ram slots at the center near front of the pc. you will see laptop/notebook type spring loaded ram memory slots. disconnect the other ends of the hdd power and data cables makes access to the ram slots easier. release the two catches on the side of each ram module to release it and it will sping up so you can slide it out. y there are 2 memory slots and the maximum memory each slot can take is 2gb. our pc ususlly comes with two 512mb ram modules. you can either replace one original ram module with a new 1gb module to upgrade from overall ram from 1gb to 1.5gb or remove and replace both to upgrade to 2gb. the memory type for this pc is a PC5300 DDR2 SODIMM RAM MEMORY MODULE.

to install new memory slot the new memory module in at the correct angle and then push it down until it clicks in place by the two side catches clicking into the semi-circular notches on the edges of each memory module.

after upgrading the ram reverse the above steps to reconnect the internal cables reinstall the hdd and silver panel and reattach and reconnect the front plastic panel.

before closing the case, reconnect all the rear cables and test that the pc starts properly and if the new memory you just installed shows up in Windows Vista Home Premium which is what this model of pc usually comes with. if so, shut the pc down and disconnect all the rear cables again before closing the case up reconnecting the cables and starting the pc again.

in Windows Vista - 'computer' - 'system properties' shows you the installed memory.

between the other expert's answer and this one you now hopefully have everything you need to know about changing memory in an Acer Aspire L320.

First step would be to lookup your system specs either in your manual or at the Acer website. See what RAM is compatible with your system. Once this is done purchase what you need. Open the case and you should see the RAM modules & slots. If you are replacing RAM you will need to remove the old first. If you are adding to empty slots just line it up properly and seat it in the open slots. Close the case and reboot. System should automatically recognize the new specs. Make sure you disconnect power and properly ground yourself before touching anything inside your case. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Install new ram in Acer aspire L320?

Sorry- I have to disagree, One screw at the back releases the lid. Inside, the dvd/hdd sub-chassis has one screw holding it to a brass post on the mobo. Undo that, then lift the chassis slightly with it's plastic strap handle, so you can detach the two connectors from the SATA drive, and the ribbon cable to the DVD (careful you don't bust the latch).

Then the whole lump simply lifts out- and you can see the 2 memory cards. The one I've just looked at appears to have 2 x 512mb simms- so you could replace these with 2 x 1024mb DDR2 SDRAM simms, to give 2GB of ram, which is what Acer say is maximum.

SOURCE: acer aspire L320 wont boot

When you say wont boot is it getting and video ouput at all? I'll assume its not. Check all your connections. One time i didnt have a SATA cable fully seated, it was just at the slightest angle creating a short and freaking the whole computer out (it was my dvd drive too!). Check all the cables and ram is fully seated as well as the CPU. Only try to boot with one ram stick at a time, possible dead ram stick too. IF its a cheapy motherboard best to just replace it.

Memory upgrade

There are 2 memory slots in Acer L320. You can use program called cpuz to check how many memory modules are you using, and what size are they.
If you have any module free you should be capable to upgrade memory.
