its like the problem come from your dvd/vcr not from your tv, change with another dvd

Your TV hopefully supportsw more then one unit connecting to it. if not you will need to use an input on one of your units (direct tv unit or DVD player) for the other unit. Example your direct tv is connected to your TV, on the back of your direct tv unit is a video /audio input. connect your dvd player to that input. on your direct tv remote or menu should be an option to use that input.

After it is hooked up, it should have a white screen saying "searching for satellite signal." After fifteen or twenty minutes, it will go to a black screen saying the same thing in a blue box. Once you are there, you can prerss the LIST button on the remote and record and copy your selected shows. This is assuming you have a newer DVR. Model R15 or higher. thanks keep updated

does your dvr have componet video connections

not sure if this is correct - code listed for Duraband DVD in my remote control manual, which you could try - 0831 or 0713. But that does not work for mine :-)

not very helpful i have the exact same problem with no audio or video connection in my tv just 1 white and 1 red in my dvd player so is there some sort of adaptor you sell that can fix this problem? thanks
