Hello, I bought a SONy Pcg-FRV37, and am having minor power problems with it.
The laptop will run without a battery untill power demands incress (heavy processor use) then abruptly cut off.
If I put the battery in, it will charge, however if the battery isnt fully charged, the laptop will rapidly cycle thru power states ( charging, on AC, on batt) when intensly used. And only cut off if battery is depleted.
Also plugging a parasitic USB device in (iPhone, iPod, etc) will encurrage this irratic state change, and actually run battery down while Laptop is plugged up.
However! If battery is fully charged this dosen't seem to be a problem.
Also I've noticed that battery never changes to Charged, it will report 100% but will forever be "Charging"
the computer looks new, and I got it for an unbelievable price.
How do I go about fixing this?
Clean the metal contacts on the Battery and in the compartment. Then, reset the BIOS to its default settings. Next, plug in the AC Adaptor to charge the Battery.
If the issue persists then the problem may be related to the power circuitry.

When you plug it in, does it show that the battery is charging? If not, then the DC Power socket has failed on the laptop, so a new power supply would not fix the problem.
The manufacturer will tell you to replace the motherboard, however the DC power sockets are readily available, and relatively easy to fit.
Well their is alot of problems as to why this could be happening.
I have taken the time to find you a web site with all the info i would tell you typed out already. So as to save time I will like you at the end of this.
try getting a update of windows
or install the xp sp3
this might solve your problem
anotherway is to uninstall teh usb port by entering the device manager and see if the correct drivers load at this point because if the driver are still not loading then the ports may not be USB 2.0
