The cd drawer of my denon dcd-485 will not open when I press the open / eject button. I have opened the case and there is no obstruction that I can see.
I have fixed this problem. Once you have removed the cover, there is a narrow metal strip that runs across the top of the cabinet from the front to the back. The drawer mechanism sits directly below this bar. What I noticed is that if I depressed the CD drawer by a fraction of a millimetre using it worked perfectly. I inserted a pencil between the drawer and the metal strip which pushed the drawer mechanism downwards and added a few thin cardboard shims until it worked consistently.

Uh, I think you already have a solution but the following may help someone else.
Ensure that the device is powered on.
Press the "Function" button (28/58) to set the unit to CD mode.
Press the "Open/Close" button (19/48) to open the CD drawer.
Insert a CD into the tray with the label side facing up.
Press the "Open/Close" button again to close the CD drawer.
If the above steps don't work, you can try the following:
Unplug the device from the power outlet.
Wait for a few minutes.
Plug the device back in.
Press the "Open/Close" button to see if the CD drawer opens.
If the drawer still doesn't open, there might be a mechanical issue with the device. Look for the Fixya advise referred to above. If if that doesn't work, in that case, it's best to contact Crosley's customer support for further assistance.
It sounds like the open switch inside the door is dirty & cannot make a connection when the CD door opens. Clean the switch & it should function properly. Otherwise, replace that switch.
it's most likely the belt that drives the cd tray has perished over time and certainly if you tilt the player to help it, that's just gravity giving it a push. replace the belt and all should be ok. hope this helps?
Off the power, and plug off the switch, and try opening it manually. DO NOT force open it. I don't think it would close back since it has no electricity already.
This has to do with a mini switch inside the door mechanism that it pushes once but with the bounce phainomenon in electric pulses it thinks that you pushed the cd door inside manualy and it tries to close the door. Try replacing this mini switch. this will solve your problem.
