Check the fuse on the floor of the oven. find it near where the cord enters the box.

Emerson may be able to tell you which part has failed but you may have to have the unit looked at be a small appliance repair person. Send Emerson an email to [email protected] with your model number and the problem you're having. If the unit is out of warranty, it may be cheaper to replace the microwave depending on what you paid for it. Keep in mind that the labor on any repair will be a minimum of $50 if you have to take it someone's shop, and that doesn't include the price of the part. Any part needed would be purchased from Fox International who's the part distributor for Emerson. They wouldn't know which part you need, however, because they're just a large parts store. Have 1 of 2 choices, the main fuse or the control board for the front switches and clock. primary of the small power transformer has opened. Unplug the unit and take case off and measure the fuse with an ohm meter. if u read 1 ohm or less then fuse is good. then measure across the main power plug tips. If read open then the power transformer is bad. Need to replace the board as not sure if transformer is available.

I agree! That is an extreme hazard. Possibly due to over voltage of the power supply or faulty relay systems. Emerson is usually a cheaper brand anyhow. I would get the money back instead of exchange.

Most of the manufactory has put them in the back where the power cord comes in.

Did it make a popping noise, like a .22 cal pistol? Probably one of the larger capacitors on the power supply blew up.

the most common problem with microwaves is the door protection circuit blows a fuse. the door catches operate switch that if they do not operate correctly( normally after the door has been slammed). the good part is they place the fuse inside the casing. so remove the power open the casing( several screws) and check all the fuses in side.

LOOKK FOR FUSE UNDER SCREWED IN PANEL!
