Windows Media Player cannot play FLAC directly, however, FLAC can be played by Windows Media Player if you install the proper FLAC codec Windows Media Player.
If you don't know about Windows Media Player codec yet, well, the word Codec is a portmanteau of 'compressor-decompressor'. So generally speaking, a codec is a piece of software on either a device or computer that is capable of encoding or decoding video and audio data from files or streams.
So how to install FLAC codec Windows Media Player? And how to play FLAC in Windows Media Player? Follow the steps below.
Step 1: Download Media Player Codec Pack.
Step 2: Close Windows Media Player if it's running, and then open the Media Player Codec Pack setup file.
Step 3: Choose Detailed Installation on the first screen of the installer, Click "Next", Read the end-user license agreement (EULA) and then click the "I Agree" button.
Step 4: On the "Choose Components" screen there is a list of codecs that are automatically selected for installation. If you want full support of all the formats provided, it's best to leave these default selections. However, if you're only interested in installing audio codecs, you can deselect other options.

How to play FLAC on my Windows PC?

Well, if you're willing to install one thing, you can use the VLC media player found here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

VLC also releases applications for Android and IOS, and nativly supports almost all media file formats. This solution would enable you to use the file in its original format on your computer and not worry about conversion issues.

Itunes - is there any way for itunes to pay .flac files? I'd like to be able to download flac files, import into itunes, and stream to apple tv

Yes you can play .flac files in iTunes. Its very easy just download a apple script named "fluke". Download from the following link if you are a MAC user.
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/28768/fluke/

It's free for MAC but if you are a Windows user you can try the conversion software dBpoweramp (Free limited version will still get the job done) and download the trial version from the following.
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm
This link also gives some explanation on how to use this program and you can directly install it on your Windows computer.

(In order to open the link just hover your mouse on the link and click)

The following link gives the instructions for using Fluke script for MAC users

Codec problem. cant play .AVI files. thanks

I'm sorry that you're having trouble playing your .AVI files. I recommend using GSpot (free download at http://download.cnet.com/GSpot/3000-2248_4-10381198.html) to identify the necessary codec, then search with Google to find and download the missing codec.
Alternatively, I highly recommend the VLC player, which has been able to play everything I've fed it, without issue. It's also a free download (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/).

Whenever i play 3gp file by media prayer classic it display en eroer

Windows media player will not play a 3gp file because it does not have the proper codec to play that file, and microsoft has not made a codec for their media player to play any 3gp files.

Realplayer SP will play your 3gp files and it is a free program. If you would like to try it out you can download it from Cnet here,
