Stopped to get gas and when I started the truck none of the instrument gauges would work. The check engine light, abs light, etc., all came on. Also, the odometer worked for a few minutes, went off and displayed what looks like ''no bus'', this may be just half of the numbers showing. I checked all of the fuses and none of them seem to be blown. The engine stills runs good, no misses, etc.
Do you have tilt steering wheel? Move it up and down to see if this affects the dash lights. Sometimes the wires break from the tilt steering wheel.
Try removing the + positive cable for a few minutes and then reconnect it allowing the computer to reset itself
I had the same situation arise with my 2001 dodge 1500 5.9 liter about for months ago. I had driven the truck about forty miles at interstate speeds up to 75 mph, as well as heavy city traffic stopping at numerous stop lights and the truck showed no indication of problems. After i finished at my destination a tried to start the truck and nothing happened. No gauges worked no lights or bells lit or sounded and across the speedometer said no bus. after several hours the cause of the problem was found at one of the plugs that hook into the main brain or computer that is attached to the passenger side firewall area. It still hooked into the harness but did not keep a tight enough connection therefore not allowing the rest of the truck to run. It was fixed with a zip tie to hold it tighter in place and 4 months later it is still working
