I run Windows XP sp3 and I have an intel core duo 2.40 GHz. I have 3 usb ports( two at the back and one on the side ) and three devices: Microsoft webcam, HP printer and a Lexar Firefly 4GB. Most of the time only the webcam is plugged in and not necessarily in use.My usb ports stopped responding two days ago and only recognised my printer.
I read a thread on fixya which advised to disable the USB 2.0-enhanced host controller, by following these steps: 1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage. 2. Under Computer Management (Local), click Device Manager. 3. In the Device Manager pane, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. 4. Right-click the USB 2.0-enhanced host controller, and then click Disable.
I did that and now both usb's at the back work but the side one is still dead. How can I get it to work again?
Also, when I plugged my webcam into the usb port at the back which had been dead but after follwing the above steps, works again, I got a message that it could work faster on another port, which I guess is the one I disabled. But if I enable it, the cam doesn't work at all. What should I do? The Lexar memory stick is still ignored on all usb ports.Thank you.
The flash drive works on another computer and on my laptop. It's the usb that has developed a problem. Not long ago I had some friends over and I plugged into the side port a mobile and then another flash drive ( Apacer ) whose plug was thinner than the one on Lexar. Could this have caused the problem? I have tried Microsoft's suggestios but nothing has worked. Everything was fine until a couple of days ago!
Also there's another thing that buffles me. My cam won't work unless I disables the USB2 Enhanced controller. And when it does work, it tells me that this device could work faster on a usb2 port and it says that one is available on my pc and it's USB2 2836. How can get round this? Re: I have 3 usb ports( two at the back and one on the
Check to see if something else will work on the side port. It may not necessarily be a dead port. Just something you should know too; I used to work for Wal-Mart in the electronics department and they had to recall all their firefly flash drives because they had a tendancy to malfunction. Try using it on a different computer, it might just be a dead flash drive. I hope this helps your problem and I hope your flash drive didn't have anything too important on it :x

Just about a month back I purchased a Lenovo laptop having Intel Core i3 processor loaded with DOS.
I then installed Windows XP SP3 32-bit and there is absolutely no problem whatsoever with the compatibilty. Also, all the device drivers for Windows XP are available on Lenovo support website.
So, there should be no problem to install and run Windows XP on this laptop.
