How do i set up a security code for my belkinN1 wirless router?

Please disable the firewall of your system and then try to open 192.168.1.1. If that doesnot work, then reset the router. Push and hold the reset button for 30 seconds and turn it off. Switch on the router and ensure that the computer is connected with an ethernet cable with the router to configure it.

Type 192.168.1.1 and hit enter. Lave the Username blank and type admin in Password. In the router setup page click Wireless and Select the wirless mode as manual and enter the settings as required.

Click Wireless Security and set the Security as per you requirements

you need to change your wirless settings.
I gues you have a high level security assigned to your router like WPA-PSK with a passphrase or WEP with 128 bit encryption.

Solution is :

Login to your router page and change the wireless security to WEP 64 bit and assign 10 digit number as a password in key 1. change your wireless name and click apply. and then try to connect to your own chnaged network.

Is there any computer online using the router.
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
router set up page is the page where you can check all the router settings.

well first off you should plug a cat 5 cable into the router, login into the router and see what the ssid is and change it to your own so you know which one you are logging into, then check the security settings if it says none then you are not secured

If your xbox is also connecting wirelessly, you have to input also the wireless security key on your xbox to be able to connect.

You could set up a mac address filter with just your routers address or you could set up a wireless key that only your computer uses. Here is a quick tutorial:

with the wrt54g you need to open a internet browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1
a security screen will pop up to which the username is "admin" and the password is either "admin or blank, (unless you specified otherwise when running the install.

once in click wireless then security in the sub menu (under the wireless link you just clicked) then fill in the boxes

the passkey is the code that is found in your router security settings, each routers number is different, so look in the router, as you must of initially done this to get your pc to connect wirelessly
