It sounds like a bad panel or possibly a bad digital board. This board is mounted on the back of the LCD panel. Have it checked by a repair shop.
I know this is an old post, but I have the exact same problem. I have isolated the problem to flex cable on the upper left most side of the LCD screen. I am able to press on the cable and resolve the issue temporarily, so the LCD is fine. It doesn't appear to be a problem with the connection since pressing on it doesn't fix the problem. I have to press on the cable itself. Unfortunately I don't have a more permanent solution and there may notbe one.

I have called Sony and the customer service is less than adequate. The had no answers, just mostly they seemed annoyed that I didn?t get an extended service contract...umm let see? maybe because Circuit City was going out of business (soon announced after I bought the TV). The weird thing is that this happens most of the time, but there are days when it doesn?t happen and the picture is perfectly normal. Even on days when it does happen the TV picture sometimes returns to normal if left on for a significant amount of time.
Well I took the TV to a repair shop recommended by Sony and while the problem may have been a bad T-board it still would end up with a $2700 repair, unfortunately with this particular modal I need to replace the LCD panel and a FDL-board. As the shop told me it was just uneconomical to repair.
Well after calling back customer service and having them contact the repair shop (apparently to assess if the problem with the TV was ?my? fault) and much to my surprise Sony stood up at the plate for its product and offer to sell me a new TV at a very reasonable price and I accepted their offer. Of course, that was a few weeks ago and there is still no indication of when it will ship or arrive, however I will keep all informed as the process evolves.
Sounds like light engine, call Sony and see if they will help you on it, that is unless it is less than a year old then it is still in warranty and they can tell you who is authorized to repair it in your area.
