Control panel buttons don't work at all or inconsistently

At first, I couldn't stop or pause the oven -- had to let it go through the entire time that was set. Now, the only button that works is the timer. I've unplugged it, and nothing takes.

Sounds to me like a faulty keypad unit.

Some people use spray cleaners on the M/Wave and this gets into the keypad and corrodes them or shorts them out. Even the ones that appear to be touchpads!
I don't have the parts list at this site to tell you what to order, but quote the model number to SEARS and they will be able to help you. If you dont want to do it youreself TAKE it to a repair shop it is cheaper than having a service person come out to do the job.

KCMS145JSS kitchenaid microwave start button doesn't work unless I hold it down the entire time it's on.

sounds like Touch pad/Keypad/Membrane Switch is bad or control panel is bad.
You can go online and using your model number search for parts, or have it repaired.
If your order parts do you have the skill, knowledge and tools to do job? You could end up throwing parts at it. Personally I would weigh the cost of repair plus the age of unit versus a new one.

In oven the start button is not working

see the details and fix it. God bless you
Touchpad and Control Panel If the microwave buttons don't work the touchpad and control panel assembly are probably defective.

Touchpad If the microwave buttons don't work the touchpad might be at fault. Generally speaking, if the dishwasher display is working and some of the buttons respond correctly but some don't, the problem is with the touchpad.

User Control and Display Board If the microwave buttons don't work the main control board is most likely defective and will need to be replaced.

Main Control Board If the microwave buttons don't work the main control board is most likely defective and will need to be replaced.

Ge profile microwave jvm1870sf02 buttons don't work do i need to change the control panel frame or Bkt c/panel

You will need to change the keypad along with the control board, because they are essentially of one piece. But the part will equal, if not more than a new microwave oven.

I have chefmate microwave and suddenly stopped working. it is showing 2:50 code on the screen only...it was working fine and dont know what happened to it and touch pad is not working..how do i make it...

HELLO.

The code on the screen indicate electric panel fault resulting from the touchpad malfunction.

The touch pad on your microwave oven acts as the brain of the appliance. It not only contains the buttons that you use to enter cooking settings and times, but also controls the function of the entire microwave. If the touch pad malfunctions or breaks completely, the microwave will cease to function. In this instance, the broken touch pad must be removed and a new touch pad must be installed, to restore functionality to the microwave.

1 Unplug the microwave from the wall outlet.
2 Remove the two screws, located on the front or top of the grill at the top of the microwave.
3 Pull the grill off of the microwave.
4 Remove the mounting screw from the top of the control panel.
5 Lift the control panel up and out to loosen. Look behind the control panel to ensure there are no metal tabs securing the control panel in place. If there are metal tabs, gently rotate the control panel to free the tabs.
6 Transfer the wires from the old control panel to the new control panel one at a time to ensure that the wires are properly installed.
7 Install the new control panel into the microwave and secure using the mounting screw that was removed.
8 Replace the grill from the top of the microwave and secure it using the screws that were removed.
9 Plug the microwave back into the wall outlet.
Thanks.

Leaving microwave on pause

Unless the control electronics fail, leaving the oven paused won't hurt anything but it will enable someone unfamiliar with to restart it with nothing in the cavity and this can damage the magnetron. Unless you are just checking the food for progress, I wouldn't recommend leaving it paused and 'armed.'
