Try the following: press Menu and use the Up/Down arrows to navigate to the General Settings. Press OK and then use the same arrows to select Display. Click OK. Again using the Up/Down arrows select Language which should be the item at the top of the list. Make sure that English is highlighted or use the arrows again to select that. Then press OK. Press Menu again to exit the entire menu system. Unfortunately, you will need to navigate through each item from the initial setup individually if any other setting is part of the problem.
Have you tried accessing the on screen menu and maybe changing the input type to cable or even line in if you are using rca (red/white/yellow) plugs to connect the cable box to the television?
Press the Menu Button on the remote to show on-screen menu.
Press Cursor Up or Down button to scroll through the on screen menu until the word Install is hilighted.
Press Cursor Right button to display the Install menu features.
Press Cursor Up Or Down button to scroll the install features until the word Language is hilighted.
Press Cursor Right button repeteadely to select English or Spanish [Espanol]
When finished press the Status/Exit button to remove the menu from the TV screen.
[The language control only makes the TVs on-screen menu items appear in English or Spanish. It does not change the other on-screen text features such as Closed Caption [CC] TV shows.]

What brand is your universal remote? Best thing would be to go on the universal remote manufactures website and they should have a list of codes for models based on what model number your universal remote is. Then you can look up possible codes for your tv found in the users manual (which you can print from online) and it gives you like 5-7 codes that you try and will give you instructions on how to enter the code and save that code to your remote. I hope that helps.
There is a lamp on this unit change it.
they are generally in a door on the side of the TV,"note" once U changed the lamp the door must be put back on to operate.
