My dvd-RW wont read any of my dvd's except plain

Hi,
set it up on a seperate IDE Channel, or change from master to slave. Or Vice-Versa.
Secondly you could try re-installing windows 2000, this should repair any corrupt or missing drivers.
Finally see the manufacturers website, to see if any firmware upgrades are available.

Or else try this

Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click)

Find "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" (and "UpperFilters.bak" "LowerFilters.bak", if they exist) value under the following key in the registry, and delete it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Hope This helps...

My dvd burneer wont reconise dvd and dvd_rw discs

Check the blank disks in another computer if you can in case they are damaged and causing a fatal error when your computer tries to read them, and the reboot.

Are you sure it's SCSI and not SATA as scsi isn't very common these days especially on desktop type PC's? Where are you looking to see if the driver is correct?
If the drive is displaying and can be accessed from your operating system then it should be working fine.

Read only cd-r not dvd

Have the same problem, it used to work and suddenly it wont do it anymore. I guess this is due to windows XP updates. Windows says that the driver is up to date and I also installed the latest firmware. I am using Nero 7 to burn. I had troubles before but somehow fixed it. Now when I insert a DVD (data) and try to open the dvd drive the whole computer hangs. The content shows for a moment before the computer freezes so it IS in the DVD.
