"A previous post a few pages in, I think in 2004, suggested gently pushing up on the lens housing while you turn on the unit. I tried this, at first on the outer ring (didn't work), and then on the inner "cylinder", this time it worked. I have turned it on and off several times now and it is working fine."
"Re the E45 error .... my kodak camera showed the same. Didn't have the time or patience to send it back to kodak so ... undid 3 long screws from side and 4 short ones from base - prised apart carefully and cleaned the circular metal bit which is underneath selection dial. Put camera back together again and after re-setting the date and time, it all works perfectly."

You need to remove the batteries and remove the memory card. Then reinstall the batteries. Finally, press and hold the "ok" button, the power on the camera. This is a factory reset trick. It fixes approximately 40% of all error messages on the KODAK EASY SHARE CAMERAS. But of course, no one is gonna be kind enough to help somebody out, they just want to take your money!
Fixing your problem could be as simple as cleaning the battery contacts
in the camera, or the solution could be a lot more complex and
expensive. Here's a link to the Kodak Help Center - it provides a
simple Q&A format to diagnose the problem and propose a solution.
This problem is frequently due to corroded battery terminals inside the
camera. Remove the batteries and wipe the terminals with a soft cloth
(heavy corrosion may require a fine wire brush, steel wool, or
sandpaper). Remove any residue left in the camera by the cleaning.
Clean the terminals on the batteries in the same manner, and then
replace them in the camera. This cures most problems, but if it
doesn't work for you, check the Kodak troubleshooting guide at:
**** a very common problem with most cameras. There hasn't been much of a solution for this problem except to try to wiggle the lens zoom while pushing and holding the power button. Also make sure you have brand new batteries installed. Even the slightest dead battery will cause a problem.
VERY COMMON WITH EASY SHARE. There are only a couple things you can really do. FIrst, try removing the memory card and try it. Than if that dosen't work. Try holding power button while gently wiggleing the zoom.
