If you have a Sony PS3 that you move from place to place, you may run into the issue where you connect it to a new TV or monitor and you can't see anything because the video settings are different than what your PS3 is configured for. When this happens, you can't even get to the screen that allows you to set the video settings, so you are basically screwed. If this happens to you, there is a fix. Turn off the power to your PS3 and then turn it back on again. But when you turn it on, hold down the power button until you see something on the screen. When you hold down the power button of the PS3 when you are turning it on, it completely resets the video settings to the most basic settings (480p I think) so that it'll work on any TV or monitor. Once you can then get something on the screen, you can configure the video settings to match the TV you are hooking up to. You'll probably have to do the same thing when you take it back to your original location. But at least with this trick you can now move your PS3 around if you want.

Devant tv using vga splitter dual

Using a VGA splitter to connect a laptop to a Devant TV can work, but it's important to note a few things:
1. **VGA Splitter Compatibility:** Ensure that the VGA splitter you're using supports the resolution and frequency of both your laptop and the Devant TV. Some cheaper splitters might not support higher resolutions, resulting in a lower quality display.
2. **Connection Setup:** Connect the VGA output from your laptop to the input of the VGA splitter. Then connect the two outputs of the splitter to the VGA inputs on the Devant TV.
3. **Settings on Laptop:** On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Displays. Ensure that the display settings are configured to extend or mirror the display to the external monitor (TV). You might need to detect displays or choose the appropriate resolution settings here.
4. **TV Input Source:** On your Devant TV, select the correct input source where you've connected the VGA cable.
5. **Signal Quality:** Be aware that using a VGA splitter might degrade the signal slightly, potentially impacting the quality of the display on both screens.
Remember that VGA is an analog signal and may not deliver the highest quality resolution compared to more modern digital standards like HDMI. If both your laptop and TV have HDMI ports, using an HDMI cable might result in a better quality connection.

How to Connect PC to HDMI TV Step 1 Turn your...

How to Connect PC to HDMI TV
  1. Step 1 Turn your computer off, and turn it around to view the rear of the unit. Find the cable that comes from the computer's monitor, and follow it to the back of the PC. The cable will be plugged into the output of the video card, which will be either a 15-pin VGA port or a 29-pin DVI port. If you are fortunate, there will be a second port directly next to it, of either the DVI or VGA variety. On the newest machines, you may even find a regular HDMI port on the card.
  2. Step 2 Choose the connection for video output. If your computer has an HDMI port, you can simply connect an HDMI cord of the correct length between the computer and the TV. Otherwise, you will need to make a few decisions. If your computer has only a single video output, and it will not be used solely with the television, you may want to invest in a new video card. Purchase one with either a DVI or an HDMI output, and install it in an available slot, according the instructions included with it. If you intend to use the VGA output on a single-output or dual-output card to drive the HDMI display, then a special device will be needed to convert between the formats, and the price of the converter is actually about the same price as an entry-level video card that will be easier to use with your TV. In that case, it may be a wise idea to upgrade the card in order to obtain a DVI or HDMI port. However, if your chosen output port is of the DVI variety, an inexpensive DVI to HDMI cable can be purchased to convert your computer's output into the proper HDMI input for your TV.
  3. Step 3 Connect the HDMI cable from your television to your computer. Install the correct adapter or converter for your computer, if necessary. Unless your computer has HDMI output, cords will also need to be connected from the sound card output to the HDMI video cable or adapter, because HDMI carries both video and audio signals.
  4. Step 4 Boot your PC, and configure the new display, by selecting "Control Panel" from the "Start" Menu. Then double-click the "Display" icon and click the "Settings" tab. The manual for your HDMI TV will list the screen resolutions it supports, along with the refresh rates. Configure the resolution in the "Settings" tab, and then click the "Advanced" button to set the refresh rate. If you are using the HDMI TV as the second monitor, you will also have to configure how it is used by Windows, according to the instructions pertaining to your video card. Most cards offer a "Clone" or "Mirror" mode, where both screens display the same content. Alternately, the "Extended Desktop" mode can be used, in which each monitor will operate independently.
  5. Step 5 Reboot your PC to apply the changes, if necessary, and prepare to relax on your couch and watch your movies on the big-screen HDMI TV.

TV is connected to laptop via HDMI cable. PC recognizes TV but TV says No Signal...what is wrong? TV input is set to PC.

On most TVs, the PC input is the VGA port. Try setting the TV input to HDMI, assuming an HDMI to HDMI cable is in use. You may need to turn off both the TV and the laptop. Then turn on the TV before turning on the laptop. After the laptop is running, you may need to adjust the display settings to send the data to the TV. (For energy conservation, the laptop may not send data to external ports.) On most versions of Windows, you can find a quick Display Settings link by right clicking on the desktop somewhere without icons or running programs. Otherwise, look in the Control Panel (Windows 8 and earlier) or in Settings (Windows 10). (There are similar steps for Mac OSX and Chrome OS.)

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(Note: using an HDMI to VGA cable is not generally useful. Those can work for some projectors. For a PC to TV, you'd need an HDMI to VGA (digital to analog video) converter.)

Im trying to connect my laptop to my TV, laptop end is a VGA and tv is HDMI. i also have a cord that does VGA on laptop Component on TV..neither will work.. whats the problem?

Hey Erin, when you mean it does not work as in there is nothing on the screen including audio? With VGA to HDMI (assuming you have the VGA to HDMI adapter) you should only get video since VGA does not support sound. As far as connecting goes its pretty much plug and play. That's also assuming that you have set it to the correct input on your tv and make sure your laptop has proper settings. Go to control panel and go to display. Make sure it recognizes dual monitor. Other than that there really should not be a problem. Look at video input on tv and display settings (OR mobile pc > windows mobility center > connect to a projector or other external display (not under classic view - Vista). I hope this helps. Give me a feedback if not. Good luck Erin.

How to connect tv to my hp pc

First you need to know what type of physical connection you're using. You have may options, depending on your video card (if you got one separate from the onboard video: VGA-VGA, DVI-HDMI, or HDMI-HDMI). Make sure you set your TV's input to the correct connection (i.e. HDMI, or VGA). Turn you PC on and it should work, if it's not, the problem is probably your PC was set to a resolution that the TV could not display. A quick fix for this is to plug in the old monitor that you were using and set it to a lower resolution. Shut off, plug in the TV, and turn on.

Video card has vga and hdmi ports, should cables be plugged into both and back into the monitor ? Viewsonic 912b

Only one cable is required.
The monitor may need to be configured to the video input connector so it knows which port the video input data it is receiving.

Pioneer SD-643HD5 HD set up

Yes a simple cable will do it. Look for a converter designed to display a computer vga on an HDMI jack. I have one, and would expect it to work in reverse. My cable has a male VGA like a computer monitor cable.
