Most times it's a lens to Camera error. Remove the lens and reinstall.

According to and directly from Nikon:

When you see Err on the control panel, LCD monitor or viewfinder of your digital camera it refers to a camera malfunction. Try the following:

  1. Remove all accessories from the camera.
  2. Install a freshly charged battery into the camera.
  3. If your Nikon camera offers resets such as the two-button reset or a hardware reset please follow those instructions provided in the product manual.
If these steps do not resolve the Err message we recommend having a Nikon Authorized Repair Technician evaluate the Nikon camera. Click here for repair information.

My Nikon N75 35mm SLR hasn't had any problems in the past, but I finished a roll of film yesterday and loaded a new one, then similarly to what a couple other people have described on here, the screen said...

Make sure the lens is set on the largest aperture number and locked to that setting. The camea if it cannot control the aperture will display ERR and lockup the camera until it can control the aperture. Take the lens off and make sure to lock it onto the camera so you can hear the locking pin click. The ERR is a lens (wrong series lens if you changed lenses) or the lens is not locked on correctly, or the aperture is not set correctly. After this it is a repair issue.

ERR 99

Err 99 usually means your lens contacts are dirty either on the lens itself or on the camera.

To isolate the cause of the issue, do the following: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert only a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99" message appear? If so, the camera may be faulty and requires a service. If it does not, then: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99" message appear? If so, then the CF card is faulty. Try a different card. If the message does not appear: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the gold contacts on the lens by GENTLY rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Keeping the camera face pointing down, also clean the gold contacts on the camera, being careful that you do not let any debris fall into the camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

If the “ERR 99" message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99" with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera is faulty and should be serviced.

Err 99 appears on lcd after every 5 clicks in canon eos 30D

the lens contacts are dirty - get a pencil with an eraser on the end, just a regular old pencil with a red rubber eraser. Detach the lens from the camera, hold it so that the lens’ gold contacts are pointing down and lightly erase their exposed surface, cleaning them of any hand oil that might have gotten on them. Do the same thing with the gold contacts inside the camera body. This is a bit harder but it’s doable: just hold camera so lens opening points down so no gunk falls in. Erase lightly. I've used a lens cloth and dabbed at the contacts rather than blow them so as not to blow the erasings inside the camera. Let me know how it works for you!

Since it was just purchase yesterday you can bring that to the store where you purchase it and have it exchange, it still under warranty. Maybe it's factory defect.

I have a playstation2. The disk doesn't show up anymore so I can't play any games. It read err.

Try cleaning the system.
Get a can of dust remover and thoroughly blow out the system.

MAKE SURE NOT TO SHAKE THE CAN OR TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN THIS WILL CAUSE FREEZING LIQUID TO BLOW OVER THE SYSTEM POSSIBLY CAUSING DAMAGE.

You will also need a laser lens cleaning kit, both of these items can be purchase @ Wal Mart, Kmart or Target for about $25.00

Movies will start...then stop

Dori,

Get a DVD Laser Lens cleaner kit with a disc and fluid. Run the kits per instructions, This may help. If it doesnt your laser may need a mechanical or Electronic adjustment.
