Our Frigidaire FEX831CS dryer started making funny noises and has completely stopped. We hit the start button now and all we hear is is humming in the machine. We checked the belt and it does not seem broken or loose. What does this sound like?

Hello trinileigh19 - Does the drain pump make a humming noise? If so, there may be a restriction in the drain line or siphoning. Otherwise since it is such a complex unit I would recommend contacting a professional to have either the pump or timer diagnose.

sounds like the motor for the dryer is going bad check for obstruction in blower wheel housing

door switch or possibly the motor. if you hold the door switch in and push the start button have someone turn the drum by hand if it starts running it is the motor

The loud noise could be a faulty or worn out motor. Or if the motor is good, the drum bearings might be worn and motor cannot turn drum. You will most likely have to remove some access panels to get a closer look at where the sound is coming from. More than likely the belt has slipped off and the noise you hear is the motor running without the belt. It is not a tough fix mentally, but it can be quite a difficult do-it-yourself task. Good luck.

It could be the belt was partially broken, and as it came apart causing the dryer to no longer start,,, it made the noise your talking about. If the dryer still heats up, and you can hear the motor running,,, these would all be signs toward a broken belt.

This is a A.C. hum that you are hearing. this is a warning sign. You are experiencing motor failure. the actual windings inside of the motor are losing their potential to hold an even current due to breakage. the shutdown is a safety feature built in the control panel to prevent electrical spark/fire.

The switch may be bad or just not engaging when the door is closed. To test it you could tape something to the inside of the door right where the door meets the switch and see if it comes on. I did that and it worked. I use it as a temp. fix.
