Ok, so I just got this camera for christmas right, and i cant seem to get pictures on it, its not the camera, because when i use my dads computer, i can get the pictures onto it, but i'd like it on my own PC, using the Microsoft Scanner and Camera wizard, my dad can get pictures onto it, when i try it a message pops up saying "Reading Picture Information"
and then a few moments later it says "The Scanner or Camera is in use, Please try again later" Even though this was just seconds after I did it with my fathers computer. But when I use the recomended by the manual "Canon CameraWindow" it pauses for a few minutes and then says it cannot detect my camera
it is very frustrating, and i Did download all the components on the disk step by step, completly.
I have the exact same camera and all I did to put my photos on the computer was plug my camera into the computer using the USB cable provided. A wizard window should pop up and click on import photos. If that doesn't work, then I'm not sure what to do. I have windows Vista, by the way.

It's very hard to troubleshoot software problems online, and it likely is a software issue. But as a solution I highly recommend that you instead consider a card reader to download your photos to your computer. They're very inexpensive, much faster downloading photos from the camera, do not use the camera's batteries during download, and are much less prone to file corruption of the photos during the download.
You place the camera's card in the reader, and your computer sees it as a hard drive. You simply copy/paste or drag/drop your photos onto your hard drive. For all of these reasons, most professional photographers utilize card readers exclusively. Really, you'll save yourself a lot of heartache. Here are some examples from Amazon. Also, don't be fooled by the cost. some of the cheapest ones work just fine. Go by the reviews. Also make sure you get a reader that is stated capable of reading your card (particularly if you have an SDHC card):

I have Windows XP, and for some reason witrh this camera the Scanner and Camera Wizard does not work...
this is quite annoying
My daughter got this camera for christmas and my pc does not see it when i connect it even though i have correctly installed the software. I tried it at my work place and it worked fine! I also have Windows XP.
