My Camera says lens error when I turn it on. makes

My Camera says lens error when I turn it on. The lens doesn't focus correctly. makes a weird whirring noise. The whirring noise is the lens coming out or trying to focus. I'm not sure. I'm hoping there is something I can do at home to fix it.

SOURCE: noise when turned on

Sounds like the gears are stripped in your lens. Send it into repairs and they will send you an estimate on what it would cost to fix it. Give them a call at 800-706-2534 option 2.

Canon powershot sd790 won't focus

There is probably dirt in the camera that restricts operation, the other concern is damaged gears, camera is trying to focus.

Some stupid person has dropped and then kicked my brand new Samsung camera and now it won't turn on and the lens is stuck out :( When I try to turn it on it makes a weird beep and won't turn on and...

You should try to get that stupid person to buy you a new camera if the following doesn't help. Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them.

This lens makes a whirring noise when attached to the camera body. It will not focus in either manual or automatic. The camera works well with the other lens.

Sounds like the focus mechanism is broken on that lens. There's a small screw on the back of it where it meets the camera body, the motor in the camera body turns that screw to autofocus. To me it sounds like the screw is turning, but the lens isn't focusing. You said it also doesn't focus in manual mode, so there is probably something inside the lens that needs repair or replacement. Your best option is to take it to a camera repair shop and ask them for an estimate, camera lenses are not the kind of thing you can take apart and fix on your own. Hope that helps.

Why does my camera turn on, make a weird noise and

hi. you have problem in lens unit and the weird noise come from to focus gear.maybe you go to the beach or dusty place thats why the said dust or sand goes into lens gear. If you can open and try to clean its better but if not bring to service center and request for cleaning and adjustment.

Lens stopped working after holding lens when on auto focus

error 99 may be the only error that the camera can identify with the problem. Generally this is dirty contacts in the camera and on the lens. The fix is to rub them with a pencil eraser and ensure no rubber swarf gets inside the camera. ( Hold upside down and use a blower and brush for cameras after doing it. Do the same to the lens contacts and re position turn on camera and see if it works ok now.

Clicking noise when it turns on and won't focus, lens error also

What you are describing is probably the beginning of a possible lens error. If the camera still operates correctly (the lens extends correctly, you can still take photos that are correctly focused) then there may be sand or dirt in the lens mechanism that will eventually cause a failure. Just as an initial step, get a can of compressed air and blow out the space between the lens barrel and the camera body. If the clicking noises continue and the lens movement is not smooth, it is time to contact Nikon support at the link below

S220 Coolpix has a lens error problem, turn camera on tries to focus (Lens moves in and out making a weird noise) but comes up with a lens error problem

Did it drop? sounds like the motor is trying to move the lens as you need, but the lens has come out of its tracking. If there is no outside damage and you still have warranty left, you should get it replaced, otherwise it means opening it to place the lens back on its tracking, but this can be tricky.
