Top Loader: Pros: faster, easier to service, can use any detergent, cheaper; Cons: Uses more water and electricity.
Front Loader: Pros: Uses less water and electricity, most clean better than the standard top loader but a good top loader cleans just as well; Cons: expensive to buy, usually less capacity, some require special low sudsing detergent, takes longer to wash (usually, a lot longer).
Check wash times for a "normal" cycle before buying. Most top loaders do a "normal" wash cycle in 35 minutes or so. A top loader may take 90 to 120 minutes.
Additional pro for front loader: they look cool!

Good Luck!

SOURCE: how to take apart a Whirlpool top loader washing machine

If you have not taken the exterior washer casing off, the first steps will explain how to accomplish this:

1. Unplug washing machine.

2. Remove console. This can be accomplished in one of two ways depending on which type of console you have.

a. If the console has removable end caps, the caps lift off by prying on the top from the back of the washer. The cap will pull off towards you as you are facing the unit from the front of the washer. There will be a screw under each end cap that you will need to remove.

b. If the console does not have removable end caps, you will need to slide a putty knife under the front corner of each side and push in while lifting up. There is a retaining clip under each side that has to be released.

3. Once the console has been released it will lift up and fold back over the back of the washer in its resting position. Use care not to stress the small plastic hinges that hold it on. They can break easily.

4. Under the console will be two large brass colored clips. Take a large flat blade screwdriver and place it in the groove of the clip on the washer top. With the screwdriver firmly in the groove, push away from you towards the back of the washer. This will release the clips.

5. Disconnect the lid switch connector plug. This is the white colored plug on the washer top under the console.

6. Remove the washer casing. Open the lid of the washer. Using one hand, grip under the front rim of the washer opening. Do not grab the wash tub, just the casing. Tilt the washer case from the back first towards you, slide forward slightly, and then lift up. The entire case comes off exposing the wash tub and components.

Once the casing is removed, you should have full access the the washer interior components. Since you have mentioned you taken the "internal post" off (I'm assuming this is your agitator), I will spare the steps in involved in accomplishing that task.

Next, follow these series of steps:

1. Remove the tub ring. This is the cylindrical donut shaped ring attached to the top of the wash tub. This ring needs to be removed in order to accommodate the removal of the inner spin basket. The tub ring comes off by placing a screwdriver under the series of the tabs that hold it in place and GENTLY prying them up until they release. Be careful not to break off the tabs, or crack the wash tub.

2. Remove the spanner nut that is under the agitator. This holds the inner spin basket to center post.

3. With the spanner nut removed, the spin basket should lift straight up and out. Sometimes the basket will stick to the center-post and may required some "coaxing" to get it free. This can be accomplished by grabbing the rim of the spin basket and prying up on one side, then the other, in an attempt to rock the basket side to side.

Searspartsdirect.com has excellent exploded view diagrams that you can use as a reference. Simply type in your model number and look under the "Agitator, Basket and Tub" heading. The tub ring gasket, I mention below, is listed as item 6. Appliancepartspros.com also has these same drawings.

Some things to consider:

If you remove the tub ring, it is recommended that you replace the seal on the ring before reassembly. Once the tub seal is broken, it can leak if the seal is not replaced.

When reinstalling the exterior cabinet, follow these steps:

1. Re-install washer case. With the lid of the washer open, place grasp case under front rim and place it on the washer frame. While looking down through the washer lid opening, make sure the front lip of the case is placed UNDER the washer frame and rocked back onto the frame to ensure that the small cleats on the frame fit into the slotted grooves on the washer case base. If you do not get the case seated correctly it will rattle and vibrate while the washer is in operation.

2. Make the back of the washer fits into the washer casing on each side and reinsert the brass clips. Place the clip into the slot on the back of the washer first, and then forcefully push it into the opening on top of the washer. It will snap back into to place.

3. REINSTALL LID SWITCH CONNECTOR. It is easy to forget. If you do not reconnect it, the washer will not work correctly.

4. Reinstall console.

If you have questions, or need further assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

PS What is the reason for removing the spin basket? Anything else I can help you with?

SOURCE: Samsung J845 front loader washing machine. Error

Hi
An OE error presents if the washing machine has not successfully drained the water in ten minutes.
there are a few simple steps to take before calling for service.
Step 1: Check the drain pump filter.
Items caught in the drain filter will prevent proper drainage. Over time build up can occur from detergents and additives used in the machine. Manually drain unit through the drain hose, then lay a towel down to catch the water, and remove the filter. Clean the filter thoroughly and restart the machine.

Step 2: Check the washers drain hose.
If the drain hose is not installed properly, the washer will not drain properly. The drain hose should not be installed more than 1 meter higher than the bottom of the washing machine.

Step 3: Confirm that the washer is leveled properly.
If the unit is not leveled properly, it will not drain properly. The front of the unit cannot be higher than the back or vice versa. If not properly leveled, the water can flow back into the machine. If this is the cause of the problem, please level the machine using the supplied leveling wrench. When you place a level on the washing machine, the bubble should be in the center. Confrim that the washer is leveled from side to side and front to back.
you can perform a diagonal test when leveling the washing machine to ensure that the unit does not tilt from corner to corner.

SOURCE: Clean LG WF-T652a Top Loader Washing Machine

I have this problem too and I solved it easily !!!!

I hypothesised that something was blocked by dried up lint/silt. So I filled the machine with very hot water and also poured hot water down the lint filter outlets. I left it for 5 minutes and then started a wash cycle - and the water now comes out of the lint filter ducts. ! :-)

Beko washing machine causing pulled threads on my clothes model number WTL10415W

No model number given. Front Loader or Top Loader? Pulled threads are normally in front loader and is caused by a pinch point in one of the baffles. On a top loader, look for a nick in the agitator, or the type with a split agitator, a gap between the two parts.

If someone uses wrong washing power and puts front loader washing power in a top loader can that do or cause any sort problems

That's no big deal. It won't harm a top load washer. Just try to use the proper stuff next time.

However, you should never use regular top load laundry detergent (non HE) in a front loading machine though, because that can quickly cause problems.

What is the difference between front and top load in washing machines?which is the best?

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Front loaders have the door opening actually at the front of the machine, similar to separate dryers so they can both sit side-by-side UNDER such things as kitchen units (as ours are!).
Top loaders obviously have to be in a position for the LID to be opened upwards and therefore could not go under units. These are fine for 'laundry rooms'

There are so many choices of each and it really depends on your own, personal requirements- one is not 'better' than the other I would suggest.
I also understand that some top loaders take bigger loads than fronts- but you would have to check ;-0)
Hope this helps,

John C

Which washing machine is better front load or top load?

Front load washing machines are better than top load money wise.

One advantage of a front loading washing machine is an increased capacity. Since there is no central agitator, the horizontally-oriented drum can hold at least 20 to 30% more clothing per load. For a large family, this could mean running only three loads in a front loading washing machine compared to five in a top loader. Fewer loads often translates to savings in utility bills and water usage.

Another advantage of a front loading washing machine is less water and detergent usage. A top loading washer must use enough water to cover the highest level of the clothes. A front loading washing machine, on the other hand, only uses enough water to cover approximately the lower third of the tub at most.

Bosch maxx classic washing machine doesn't clean clothes

There are a lot of things to consider when trying to solve this problem. Obviously a front loader washes differently than a top loader. Top loaders tend to using a washing motion that is good for stains but wear out your clothes fast. Front loaders typically use less water and wash more gently, but in some ways still do better than top loaders. Anyway, think about any other variables that go into the laundry equation. Consider the distance the machine is from your water heater. This machine will use MUCH less water to fill than your old one, and, you know how when you turn a faucet on hot it takes a minute for the hot water to actually get there? It's the same way with your machine. If there's a sink next your washer, you should always turn on the hot water on the faucet until it gets hot right before you start the machine. The same goes for dishwashers. If there's not a sink close you can easily turn up the temperature for all hot water on your water heater, although that will use more energy.
Consider what detergent you're using. If you're using high efficiency detergent (like Tide he) maybe you should switch to your old brand. If you're using your old brand of detergent, try getting a high efficiency detergent.

This has to be a front loader right? if yes i have baaaaad news. you say it sounds whirlly kind of like and airplane taking off or a train going through your house? If yes YOU HAVE A BAD BEARING!!!!!!! not good news. you are better off replaceing the unit because this repair will cost more than buying a new washer. Now if it is a top loader this would be a different issue. please clarify if it is a top loader or a front loader?
