My dishwasher is not draining completely. There seems to be more water left than last time I used it. Also, I tried to used the cancel/drain feature, with no success. Please give me some suggestions!
Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
The drainage problems are caused by particulate in the drain.
There are 3 areas that cause restrictions with larger food particulate
1. The Air-Gap (if equipped) but the most common blockage point,
2. The sink connection. This is usually a garbage disposal connection. If the user is not properly rinsing long enough while the garbage disposal is in use the garbage disposal / dishwasher connection port is blocked with garbage disposal debris.
3. The bottom of the dishwasher sump area under the lower wash arm. If this area is blocked the user will complain of dirty dishes post cycle, It also causes drainage problems, If the user says dishes are not getting clean and it is not draining properly this will be the LAST area to check. Do 1 and 2 first.
I have had multiple call backs on some units... I have learned to call a brief moment before stopping by and inspect the DIRTY dishes in the dishwasher, the sump, air-gap and sink connection. Most of the time I find that the user is placing dishes with large food particulate in the dishwasher or... they are not letting the water run long enough when using the garbage disposal so the garbage disposal port clogs. These are the same folks that have things like pump impellers and pump housings that get broken due to their daily routine habits.
You wil have to clean all of the drain connections for the dishwasher pump outlet all the way to the sink connection. The Air-Gap is the most common area for blockages so pull off the cover.. unscrew the inner top nut NOTING the installed position BEFORE removal and clean out the Air-Gap (if you have one) Otherwise remove the drain hose at each connection and remove the debris. It is OK ot reconnect each connection after your done cleaning. This will solve about 85% of dishwasher drain problems. The last 15% the lower wash arm and support has to be removed to inspect for pump impeller damage or motor pump housing damage.
FYI the 2nd most common reason for drain problems is the actual sink port connection being clogged. Just clean the drain hose connection ports and the air-gap.
I think once you get all of your drain connections cleaned that your dishwasher will operate normally.
