Hi i have a leapster but it wont switch on I also have no manual if i could just find the manual id sort it out Hi, jimz4 here, I also have same problem with Leapster not powering up, have new batteries, cleaned connections, used the rechargable station battery pack, nothing worked, it turns on but does no power to a screen to play. Please help with kids xmas gift!
First let me say there was some confusion here. The question you posted was under the category of Playstation 2. Sweet_rascal apparently didn't realize you were talking about a Leapster not a PS2, so please disregard his comments. It's likely he doesn't have any experience with the Leapster. I have 2 young girls at home, however, so I am very familiar with it.
One thing you can try - if it gets that far, is recalibrating it:
Insert a cartridge, turn the unit on and wait for the sign-in
screen to appear.
Hold down the Home, Hint and B buttons
simultaneously.
When the screen changes, press the A button.
Using the Stylus, touch the center of the targets.
See if that helps at all, though I'm not sure it will from your description of the problem. But, it's somewhere to start. I'm looking for more information now.

This may sound silly, but sometimes it's overlooked. There should be two contrast knobs on the bottom of the Leapster. Have you tried adjusting those to see if it brings the screen up? If they're adjusted too dim, it actually removes all display from the screen.
Okay, found some more information.
Apparently a number of Leapster units have had problems with their screens. If calibration (as I suggested above) doesn't work, and the contrast knobs are not the problem, you should call LeapFrog: 1-800-701-5327
Their hours are:
5 - 7 M-F (PT)
7 - 4 Sat. (PT)
They have been replacing damaged units if calibration doesn't fix the problem.
Let me know how all of this works for you, and if there's anything else I can do to help.
And again, my apologies for the confusion with sweet_rascal.

If the light goes green for a very short period before going red again it means theres a short on the circuit board. u can try and find the problem but because the circuitry is very small, it wont be easy to find. only other solution is to buy a new circuit board :(
The red light is on, but when we try to push the button to turn it on, it wont do anything..... if problem is like this..
Check to see if the ribbon cable from the power switch is seated the socket properly. Otherwise,
I believe your PS2 has a short circuit and needs another motherboard. If you can do this yourself, that’s great. You can find Motherboards or PS2 like yours that will not read discs but
will boot up for about $25 on Ebay. If you’re not comfortable
with Changing out your motherboard, then click on the "Repair
directory" at the bottom of this screen. On the Repair Directory
Screen, select Video Game Consoles. Choose a good Repair shop.

This is not a solution to my problem with the leapster, it turns on but the screen will not respond. It is divided into four sections that are square. Some music plays after the on button is pushed, then the screen displays the four squares but then it will not respond. This is my problem. Do you have the solution?
Yes, that is a better discription of problem.
The music plays the screen comes on with the four squares and the bottom left square has two shapes inside it, a smaller square and a rectangle standing long side up. Then it does not respond. Clear enough now?
Sorry for the trouble, but...that link just took me to the screen to sign up to be expert. I looked throught the problems listed all 18 pages could not find anything that helped. I do not think that the screen freezing on a leapster is same as a tv. What exactly is your solution so I can try it and tell you if it helps. Do not know what tat means...or if not means say means. Thanks and again sorry for the ignorance.
This is a discription of problem with the Leapster; After pressing the on buttom the music starts to play and the screen lights up and displays four squares and the bottom left square has two shapes inside it, a smaller square and a rectangle standing long side up. The music stops and then the screen is frozen. I suppose it is defective? any soloution for jimz4?
