My 6-year old Mitsubishi WS-65813 TV intermitantly keeps dropping the cable signal (e.g., looses both the picture and sound; the screen goes blank) BUT the green power light stays lit. I have to turn off the TV and then back on again to reestablish connection with my cable box. This is only temporarily solves the problem--then it happens again (now even more frequently). This problem also occurs when I play my DVD or VCR. The problem is definitely with the TV and not the cable box, DVD or VCR.
I figure I am going to have to call a Mitsubishi repairman to come to my home, but I am trying to get some idea as to what the problem with the TV might be before I make that call. In the 7 years I've owned this Model WS-65813, I have not had any previous problems with it until recently. The problem seems to be that when something inside the TV gets too warm, it causes the TV to turn itself off EXCEPT that the green power on light that you see on the front of the TV stays lit. If I turn off the power, and then turn it back on, the TV seems to reset itself and comes back on for awhile--then cuts out again. The number of times that this TV "cuts out" is increasing in frequency. Could this be something like a weak electrolytic capacitor, or a power transistor in the tuner circuit? (P.S. Considering what I paid for this TV 7 years ago, I agree with you that Mitsubishi quality does not seem to be what it once was.)I figure I am going to have to call a Mitsubishi repairman to come to my home, but I am trying to get some idea as to what the problem with the TV might be before I make that call. This may not help, I had a 65" mitsubishi high def Rear Projection tv, about 2 years ago it had issues with the circuit boards (cards) in that they had either a cold solder or failing connector (definitely a mechanical/connection issue as in movement or pressure helped or recreated the issue). When we 1st bought it 8 yrs ago, the computer card failed on initial start up. After threatening to make us pay for service call, mitsubishi repair man replaced defective card and it worked well from then on, til the other issue two years ago. simular problems with a few others I know of. needless to say when I replaced TV I bought a Toshiba.....mitsubishi quality control seems to be waning. This may not help, I had a 65" mitsubishi high def Rear Projection tv, about 2 years ago it had issues with the circuit boards (cards) in that they had either a cold solder or failing connector (definitely a mechanical/connection issue as in movement or pressure helped or recreated the issue). Sounds like the CRTs are going into protective blanking due to the vertical output ic needing to be resolderd. Try resoldering the vertical IC that may possibly fix the issue.
Tank,
If the unit operates correctly on DVD then we can assume that the signal chain and display is operational. Can you substitute the Directv receiver to rule the box out as part of the problem? I know they came out and checked but how exhausting was the testing? Have you checked signal strength on the directv on screen setup? Low or marginal signal strength could cause intermittent blanking. When the screen goes dark does the audio continue?
