Guardian Rv Generator 4800 Watt, Gasoline, Primepact 50G Logo
Anonymous Posted on Oct 09, 2009

40G quietpact rv generator shuts off the instant something is powered on. Sometimes it does run for about a minute before shutting down. Sometimes it's running and shuts down the instant the appliance is turned off. An a.c. testing tool indicates that wiring is correct. Also sometimes after one of these occurrences, the genset's circuit breaker is tripped.

The fact that it's tripping the breaker on the genset would suggest the the problem is not at the generator but rather on the load side of the genny before anything else I would seperate the generator from the rvs electrical system and apply some other load some thing fairly heavy toaster heater ect.. the fact that it's stopping the generator is a little unusual but it could just mean that the electriacl panel has a relay that keeps the generator running when the power dies so does the generator .load test should point you in the right direction I,ve owned 4 motor homes and when I wish you luck I realy mean it.
Good Luck

Generac guardian rv generator starts and runs but after a couple minutes the power stops.....generator still runs??

Usually the generator will shut down if the ac is not present coming out of the generator. You stated that it still runs but no power on the output. Check your breakers first to make sure they are working properly. Depending on what board you have you can check to see if ac is present getting back to the board as well. If your board does not have this then they are using the frequency as a safety disconnect feature. That would lead you back to the regulator or loose connection or..dirty slip rings if this unit has brushes.

How to change the fuel filter on guardian quietpact rv generator

It back fires

If it backfires, check for manifold leaks, fuel mixture is too lean, timing is off, make sure it isn't spitting liquid into the cylinders and the LP is the right pressure, and the vapour coil is working

I have a Guardian RV 3600 watt generator than wont run more than a few seconds. I have to hold my hand over the breather to get it to fire then as soon as it revs up it shuts off.

carburetor restricted due to long time storage drop carb fuel bowl unscrew the jet and pull down the fuel tube clean them and your generator should run much much better

My gen starts and runs for 1 min or so then dies restarts then dies again and again. if i start it under load ( turn on air con) it will run for 10 min then die allen

Is there a fault?? All UL listed generators including Kohler are required to lockout on a fault on shut down. This really sounds like a problem with your 2-wire auto start connection between your automatic transfer switch and genset. RDT model automatic transfer switch it is the 2 middle wires on the green connector and terminals 3&4 in the generator. close to run and open to shut down. Any open at any time will cause the unit to shut down. The 12 will shut down instantly upon an open because your 5 minute cool down is built into the transfer switch.

I have a new Guardian 40G generator that won't start (correctly, anyway). When I squirt gas into the intake it runs until that is gone then dies. The fuel pump is pumping gas to the carb. but it seems to...

Try to measure the voltage at the connector when trying to start.
If it is 12 V and the engine does not start - disconnect it and try again.

Have in mind that you must have protections (Shut down):
  1. Low oil level;
  2. Low oil pressure;
  3. High temperature.
and this valve may be responsible for them.

My 40g shuts off after running perfect for a feww minutes

It is very likely you are having a problem with the low oil pressure switch or the high temperature switch. Both of these are connected to the No.85 wire which in turn goes back to the control board. If the temperature exceeds the predetermined level (apprx 305 degrees F) the high temperature switch will then ground wire 85 causing the unit to shut down. Same thing with the oil pressure switch, if the oil pressure switch goes below 10 psi the low oil pressure switch will ground wire 85 causing the unit to shut down. To determine which is causing the problem disconnect first the low oil pressure switch (Located by the oil filter) and start unit if it contunues to run after 10 seconds and does not shut down then the oil pressure is the problem. Then you must use a mechanical pressure gauge connected where the low oil pressure switch is to determine if you actually have less than 10 psi of oil or if the low oil pressure switch is just bad. Try the same thing with the high temperature switch also located close to the oil filter if you disconnect it and it continues to run more than 10 seconds then you have and engine that might be overheating. Anything that gets caught in the air intake on the generator itself ill cause this unit to overheat, I've seen it **** garbage in through the air intake and cause the unit to overheat because of poor air flow. If their are no restrictions and you have good air flow than chances are you have a bad high temperature sensor.

Hope this helps, please let me know.
