Wanting to buy an Avital 4103 starter/keyless and am wondering if I can install myself? Found on Ebay....can anyone warn me what to expect and if I should pay the $250 to have a local person do it instead? I'm installing it on a 2001 Chev. Suburban

Yeah, get new remotes from you car dealerships. Not cheap though. They can probably change the chip inside your remotes.

The bypass module is most likely interfering with the vehicle data causing the OEM security to trigger. Take it to a security/remote start retailer and have the bypass module reprogrammed or replaced.

You can put an amp meter on the battery, an amp clamp meter is easier and safer or a multimeter with 20 amp rating or better, find remote starter unit, find fuses for unit red wire on most starters is 12 v constant, you can put amp meter between the Avital fuse but there may be multiple Red wires or run the ampmeter on the battery + terminal through the ampmeter, DO NOT START THE CAR with the meter connected, just hook it up and close all the doors and wait 2 hours for all the car computers to reset and idle, record your amp readings, its tough to say what your truck actually drains per hour, I am guessing under 60ma is ok, remember when you open the car door you will activate the SJC computer "smart junction box in most Fords and it will drain current for a little while, disconnect your Avital and then see what the current is after an hour, remember most Digital volt meters shut off now after 5 minutes and you have to push buttons or flip knobs to activate them, doing this may disturb the current reading tests because you might open the circuit , try an old analog amp meter if you can find one.

Try leaving the key in the ignition (but don't turn it) and then try. If it starts then you need to properly bypass the transponder system. If not then most likely you don't have your ignition and/or start wires hooked up properly. On many cars there is a second starter wire that needs to be connected

The 4103 is not an alarm! It's a keyless entry and remote starter. So...what are you trying to do.

It is not likely that they could be used interchangably. The reason is the narrow radio spectrum that is used and the desire for such companies to produce proprietary pieces.

It is is possible if you were to get a Fob for a 4103 off Ebay for example, they could be resynched. But the remote start is going to have a different signal than the remote door lock. just so they can be operated independent of each other. So it is not likely the 2101 would do more than sync to the door locks.

I have a Dodge Caravan 2001 SE. Had the Avital 4103 installed. My question is, before installation i had a Chrysler car alarm in the van. When the remote start was installed they removed the alarm.
The shut down toggle switch was not installed, also the push button valet switch was not installed also. Is this a correct installation, I was told that I did not need the last two items to be installed.
