I have a Technics SLPJ27 C D player .Lately when I insert the CD to play it is taking up to 20 mins to start playing.
Sometimes it will start playing as soon as you press the play button
Any help would be appreciated

First I think you should turn your player on and wait 5 - 40 minutes before before you start liste3ning music. because electrolytic capasitors may be little broken and those can repair themselves but it takes a while.
Good rule of thumb is that If you don't use every day an old device then you should give to it every time a soft start . like I mentioned earlier turn power on and wait.
Second try to play music cd which don't have any scratches and without any copyprotections
Third Disconnect power cable
Then open device and try to clean all dust.
Look for hairs and other difficult to see objects uselly you find at least one hair inside old cd player. If hair is around disk spindle it maybe difficult to remove.
Check that cd-disk makes good contact so remove even tiniest dust and hairs between cd-player and copact-disk. It may be called spindle or what ever but still try to clean it with Isopropyl alcohol and remove dust and filth.
Check laserlens and is there some dryed liquid stains if there is try to remove those with Isopropyl alcohol and swabs. Don't use any force and you can tear a top of swab little longer (about one inch) and you get swabs which are much easier to use these kind of delicate cleanings.
Lubricate every moving part with lithiumgreese don't make any mess.
This last fix is for most desperate ones. Connect the power cable and push eject and be carefull because you can get fatal electric shock. Disconect power cable. You can use extension cord which have on/off powerswitch. You can see six tiny trim pots. First take photo of those pots so you can undo all changes.
Change only one pot and only about 1/8 of turn. Turn power on and test if you make it worst or better. If you think you fixed the problem that is not the case ... yet. Then you have to make finall test and play a lot of music cd:s and after that you have fixed the problem.
Make notes which cd:s and what track your player don't play properly and use those cd:s to testing those trimpot changes.

You should realize that this player is about 20 years old.
It was not designed to read CD-R or CD-RW media.
The signal from these media types is different from audio CDs you buy.
Not all CD players can or will play CD's burned in a PC. Sometimes the CD player is to old, so not compatible with these CDs. Sometimes the player just does not play these CD's, because of rights protection.
A CD burned in a PC is less reflective than an normal music CD. Normal CD's do have a metal coating and are highly reflective. Burned CD's have a dye, and where the laser burned the dye, it only changed colour. Making it less reflective.
All modern CD playes should be capable of playing CD r's. But the player that is really compatible, is labelled CDr and CDrw compatible.
Hello If a disc has been put in the slot of the disc in play, Remove the disc, whose number is displayed, and press stop button. Because of light or noise, the changer has detected a disc in the lot of the disc being played, even though it is empty. Check whether there is a disc in the displayed slot. With front panel closed, hold down "STOP " button for atl least four seconds or more.
If it doesn't turn the disc it can't read the data and 'know' from that there is a compatible disc inserted.
You may have gotten hosed by the seller. Until you get it to play with a commercial music CD I wouldn't try anything non-standard or home-grown. It doesn't play anything but CD-A music so MP3 and AVI discs would not be recognized anyway.
Before you dive in and possibly wreck it, read this...
If thhis happens quite often , and does not depend on the media, then it is usually a dirty lens problem. The lens is dirty or scratched and sometimes cannot read CD TOC (table of content).
If this happens only on reocrded CDs , try changing the media used. For example if you used +R, try with -R.
If this happens on all media, then try cleaning the lens with a lens cleaner CD or blowing some canned air on the lens.
this player uses a philips mechanism, spindle motor failure is very common on these mechanisms, yours may be on its way out. take the lid off and insert a cd and if you can hear the laser trying to read the cd without it spinning, it's definately the spindle motor.
Friend. Did you try a CD that you purchased from the store? if so and this problem persist, then you need to get you a new player. If the CDs are scratched, some players will not play them, If they are burnt in mp3 format, (or data format) your player may not recognised this also. Please try playig a regular CD that you bought from the store, if this work, then you will need to reburn your music as a regular CD, hoping that the SL-MC700. reads copied. It should. But please checks these steps.
