My Tappan gas stove (fairly old) will not heat up. The burners work and lite just fine. The orange glow comes on in the oven but does not heat up past room temp. What needs to be replaced?

The ignitor is probably weak. You have a good circuit because the oven control is trying to light burner. The gas valve is alo fine because it is allowing current to flow. The ignitor with age does not draw enough current to light off the stove.
If this is an electric oven, most likely the oven bake element has burnt out. the model and serial number should be behind the bottom drawer, most elements are held in with (2) 1/4 inch socket hex head screws.
Remember to unplug stove or shut off breaker before servicing. The element can be slid out usually, then unplugged or remove the back cover behind stove and unplug it from the wiring harness. I hope this is useful
that ignitor should lite the flame within 40 to 60 seconds if not the ignitor is bad.even though it glows red it doesn't mean it's good it works with amps change the ignitor
Most likely a hot-surface ignitor has failed. If it doesn't consume enough current, the gas valve won't open. It's usually a fairly easy fix, once you gain access to the ignitor and have a new one to replace it with. Make sure you unplug the range...
Silver solder up all burner jets and redrill to .6 mm then reset adjusters so you get a nice blue flame with small orange tips.and oven burner to .8mm i have just done a new world 75 last week.Works perfect
The main thing that goes out is the ignitor on these stoves. If it appears to be glowing it does not mean a thing. The ignitor gets weak. It should be very bright. if it is a dim orange it is bad.
Something is stopping the gas flow. Turn off gas. Disconnect line from the stove have someone turn on and off the the gas just for a second.(make sure no flame in room). See if gas is available. If not it is the gas line leading into the house somewhere, not the stove. Follow the piping to the first thng it comes to. Disconnect that line and see if it is open from there back to the connection. If you finally get to the valve, which I dont think you will . You will have to disassemble or replace it.
if it's just the stove, it's not the control board because the rest of your stove work. if it's just the oven, it most likely the thermostat, blower or the heat probe. go to www.reliableparts.com to get parts for it.
you most likely have a bad oven ignitor...if you see an orange glow under the oven panel that is your ignitor trying to come on....but if it is weak it will not open the gas valve.....acess the ignitor and replace it
